Liam,
Carole and I had an old Dometic that leaked in the coolant tubing. Awful smell! We were not able to find the three way unit so settled for the current (then) two way unit (electric – shore or generator, or propane). Its been 5-6 years since the replacement and it is cooling just fine.
On the panel cover laying on the floor, I’d go get that bad boy sandblasted and powder coated before it rusts away. You will like the looks much better too. I just had a new refrigerator outside cover powder coated. It will look much better than stark white against the stainless. Dometic has changed the design of the cover since my original one on the coach. The circumferential rail is no longer welded at the joint; they use a white rubber hinge to hide the steel hinge. I almost came unhinged in discussing the design shortcomings. Dometic was nice enough to send a replacement vent unit, it had the same shortcomings as the first unit. I took it to a local blacksmith company, had the circumferential frame heli-arc welded and then the entire unit, frame and cover, powder coated a dark shade of steel gray. Turned out just great.
Hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving.
