I’ll bet the real answers to most of your questions are at your fingertips within those documents.

One thing I have learned and really appreciate is almost every feature on our coaches is based on logic. I have often studied a system to try to figure out how it works, why it works, and why it has certain features and almost always it is because the system designs have a certain logic to them based on how most people use their coach.

GM, I see you have an Aqua Hot hydronic heater. This heater provides interior heat and unlimited hot water.

A 5000 btu 120 vac electric element and a 50,000 btu diesel burner heat 16 gallons of regular engine antifreeze to about 175 degrees F. Three zone pumps circulate the hot coolant through 3 heating loops through fan coils like in the dash of your car. The interior thermostats call for the correct pump and fan(s) to heat the area controlled by the thermostat.

Fresh water pressure circulates fresh water through a coil of copper pipe around the hot coolant heating it to about 115 to 120 degrees F for hot water in the bus. A tempering valve keeps the water at temp as long as the water is flowing.

There is a fourth pump that will circulate main engine antifreeze around the hot coolant tank preheating the engine in very cold weather. This pump is ON only when needing to start the engine in really cold weather. Plus, the main engine water pump circulates hot engine coolant to the heater heating the Aqua Hot coolant when driving.

I have a client that spent 2 winters in WY and the Aqua Hot did not let the coach freeze in minus 30 degree weather.

NOW, here is the important stuff. Turn the Webasto burner ON and walk to the exhaust pipe for the burner. There should be a robust smooth roar from the exhaust with no smoke or visible vapor and no excessive smell. If not true, service the burner.

Once you know the exhaust is clean and clear, RUN the burner ONCE per MONTH year round, EVERY month. Doing so will keep fresh diesel on the nozzle and you will only need service every 2 to 3 years.

Allowing the burner to sit and not run for weeks and months on end allows the diesel on the nozzle to congeal messing of the fine mist fan spray pattern. This results in smelling and or smoking and even no firing. So, once per month.

If you wish to service the burner but need assistance, please contact me. I can walk you through the less than one hour process on the phone. I know where to get the parts and how to diagnosis any problems.

Attend Oyster Fest April 16, 2020, in Orange Beach, AL and I will sit with you coaching you through the process and supplying needed tools and parts. If you are there or in the Houston area, you can get me to do the service. Plus there are other good folks that can provide the service found by asking on this forum where members have gotten good service. NOT all RV techs can sort the Aqua Hot burner out. I am told Prevost Houston is an example. Jeff at ETLC in Vanore, TN, is quite good and there are other places.

Hope this helps you. jrlegett at gmail dot com

Rudy was very good training a questionable student at the 2019 Oyster Fest. I, I mean he, learned a lot! 🙂
