We currently tow either a Land Rover Discovery II or our 2011 GMC Denali Duramax quad cab four wheels down. Using our tow dolly eith a Mercedes SLK or Merc C-240 sport wagon both of which are manual 6 speeds

over the last 18 years we have outfitted to tow with a Blue Ox equipment with exception of two LR Discoverys and Ford E-350 Airstream camper van

So yes Harry we tow a car everywhere we go with the bus. BTW, Beaver Bus 34, our previous bus, towed our 7,700 lbs GMC Denali duramax truck just fine, at 38 mph towards Eisenhour Tunnels on I-70 here in Colorado

I wouldn’t travel without a toad for two reasons:

1. In the extremely unlikely event something happens to the coach I can use the coach to run for parts or if the had to be left somewhere or towed I have transportation.

2. When I get to where we’re going, I have something I can get around in. Use a Blue Ox tow bar.

We use to always tow 4 down, but now I sometimes put the toad in a trailer w/other stuff.

We’ve only done one trip without the TOAD and that was for a tailgate function at a college football game.

We also always want a tow vehicle with us. So convenient! We have towed the Honda from TN to CA and have never unhooked it, but it’s there if we need it!

I think we are in the minority on this – no toad. We borrowed a friends Jeep two summers ago and towed it. It was easier than I expected. We do an enclosed trailer with motorcycle on occasion. Otherwise bicycles and Uber.

Buddy, our FJ is Rwd, but 4wd can be towed 4 down too. In June of 2010, Remco/Superflow Technologies made a splined coupler and shifter, Model# TOY-18, that bolts on to the rear differential. I had a local driveshaft company build and balance a new driveshaft w/the splined Remco coupler. I mounted the shifter on the diff and installed the cable that engages/disengages the coupler under the drivers seat. Roadmaster made a tow bar mounting bracket kit, # 1183-1, for ourFJ and the Roadmaster All Terrain Blackhawk 10k tow bar. Don’t pull the ignition key out of the ignition when turning off the FJ and the steering wheel doesn’t lock. Also, the FJ electric power brakes are active/alive even with the key off. Brakemaster/Roadmaster made a kit that installs a pneumatic actuator kit, #9160, between the brake pedal and a seat bracket to get proportional braking. This is done by tapping into the bus brake system between a relay valve and brake chamber. Diodes in the tail lights.
I don’t know if any of this stuff is still available??? Back then it cost me about $1800 for everything. I did everything except build the driveshaft. That driveshaft, coupler, and shifter have 120k miles of trouble free miles on them now. The FJ has 163k trouble free miles. The original driveshaft is in storage.
