  • Do clearance lights need silicone or just a gasket

Posted by Frank on August 28, 2020 at 7:11 pm

I am installing all new clearance lights (14) on the front and rear caps. I also bought new gaskets and want to know if i should also use silicone? On the front cap (2001 XL2) the clearance lights above the entrance and service doors had silicone around them already but they do not fit (gap around the outside housing where the light meets with the window)as tight as all the rest of the lights

Silicone sealant makes future servicing or replacement difficult, but that is a small price to pay for insuring you will not get water penetration.

The problems and potential damage from water entry can be significant and prevention is by far the best choice.

I use RTV, but any weather resistant sealer will work.
