  • DIY Gen Bay Upgrade Remodel

Posted by DON on February 2, 2017 at 3:06 pm

I did this gen bay upgrade remodel in Sept of 2015. I did a thread here on PC back then but I didn’t include enough pics and/or info.

I shortened the electrical cabling, fuel lines to unclutter the bay. The extra length can be easily damaged when sliding the genny in and out.

I found a secret door(see pics, no treasure chest) behind which lies the Prevost OTR air/heat evaporator & heater core.

Also, when starting the genny back up, it was difficult to get the airlock out of its cooling system. To do so , open the 2 petcocks near/at the genny thermostat area, put a slight pressure,

    Notes:

    1) took me a week or two to do this project

    2) It darn near destroyed my knees

    3) used .063″ 3003 aluminum polished treadplate to build the slip-over front cover
    4)
used .125″ 6061 aluminum treadplate for the bay floor
    5) r
eplaced the gen compartment 120v squirrel cage evacuator fan, Dayton#1TDR3
    6)
    installed all new heat/sound barrier
    7)
installed new air filter, NAPA# 6296
    8)
    replaced the coolant/radiator hoses w/two Dayco# 75113GL
    9) r
eplaced the fuel lines w/new, 5/16”
    10) Installed new alternator belt, NAPA XL 25-7417
    11) replaced various coolant hoses & clamps with new(1″, 1 3/8″, etc)
    12) c
    hanged both fuel filters, Fleetguard #s FF5059 & FF5147
    13) c
hanged oil w/7 qts Mobil Delvac Super 1300 15-40w
    14) c
    hanged oil filter w/Fram XG3593A
    15)
made custom aluminum treadplate floor and slip over belt/pulley cover

I’ll post a “Generator Radiator & Fan Bay Upgrade Remodel” thread soon.
