Disel Fuel Additive
Do you use an additive in your diesel fuel and if so what brand?.
Can you actually see a difference?.
I know we all want to believe what we put on the tank that cost more money is doing a benefit.
I read the reviews and can’t be sure they are legitimate.
I am a show me type person.

Claims to increase MPG by 14%.
When we were there camping in their parking lot, did I mention they have a dump station? Every trucker that came in fo service left with at least one gallon.

If the manufacturer of the product claiming a 14% increase in mileage wants to prove that claim to our almost 4300 members I will repeat the year long test I did previously on another product making the same claim.
They can be assured they will get a true, fair test with a well established benchmark of data relating to fuel consumption. I have the records showing every single gallon of fuel ever added to my coaches, I have the dates and mileage, and I drive at a consistent speed and have for decades so I will be able to note any changes in mileage as a result of the additive.
In the previous test which took a year to complete I added the product according to the instructions and at the end of the year the change in MPG was zero.
The best fuel additive is more fuel. Run the coach a lot, refuel at busy locations, do not store the coach for extended periods in high humidity locations, especially with temperature swings, and if the coach is stored keep the fuel tank full.
Anyone can make claims, and if anyone is looking for a documented test provide me with the additive and in at least a year or two I will provide all the data needed to prove or disprove the claims.

The answers would be NO and NO!
They are good if you are going to store the RV for the Winter (add an anti-gel) but otherwise……

Put this in mine as I use to run it in my 1 ton diesels, Dodge and Chevy’s, when I had the shop and didn’t have any injector problems. . Figure with this low sulfur fuel, anything would help. Heard that just a little automatic trans fluid at fill up would do the same trick,, That is on the older Dinosaur’s 8V92TA’s like mine.

I try to keep things simple … since my private school education ended in the 8th grade and I never had the benefit of taking “Physics without Calculus”.
What propels a vehicle down the road is the BTUs (energy) in the fuel. Each gallon of gasoline or diesel has only so many BTUs. How that energy is used is what translates into fuel mileage.
Electronic fuel injection, variable electric valve timing, (variable electric ignition in a gasoline engine) all contribute to using the energy in the fuel efficiently which translates into better mileage.
If there was something in a can or bottle or jug that give us a dramatic increase in fuel mileage … the big trucking companies and fleet operators would be all over it. But the magic potion in my opinion would have to have something in it that dramatically increase the energy (BTUs) of what was going into our engines.
Some of these additives might have advantages in other areas. They might clean the fuel pumps and injectors so the spray of the fuel into the combustion chamber was even and proper resulting in a better fuel burn. They might reduce or eliminate the growth of “stuff” in the fuel.
But at the end of the day … I question the value of this stuff for most of us.

I use the same product Glen does. The guy I bought the bus from said he used it every fill up. He said the guy he bought the bus from said he used it as well. All I know is my 8V92 runs like a top so I’ll go with history!

As a general rule, I consider this stuff ‘snake oil’ but I agree some are useful in limited cases. I have a very hard time believing any claim of increased mileage.
At one time, I owned a fairly new, low mileage 1999 GMC 2500 van equipped with the (?) 6.5 turbodiesel. Because of the seating position, it was easy to hear the engine. Somebody talked me into trying some Lucas fuel conditioner by giving me some free samples. The engine became so much quieter that my so thought the engine had stalled at a light! Been using it ever since in my Prevost’s. I put one quart in at each fillup.
Don’t have any scientific proof (I can still clearly hear the S60 idling!!) but I’ve never replaced an injector in 300,000 on my 8V92 and passing 240,000 on the S60.
