Direct TV Hassles.

We have Directv HD Service, using A top mounted dish, not an in motion dish. You cannot get Directv HD from an in motion dish. We are using a Genie mounted in the bedroom with coax to the dish, 2 remotes, one to front tv and one to outside bay unit. The service is great, not problems, great picture, but no local channels when outside our local area. It has not been much of a problem, but there are some network shows we miss.

We use DirecTV in our coach. The dish is “in motion”, so not High Def, but we are very satisfied with the picture quality and never hook up to campground TV…we use the same subscription we have at home. On the road, we find we can get local programing out to about 300 miles…beyond that: no local. I guess I might try to use the antenna or park connection, but don’t since we’re not really interested in what’s going on in a place we’re visiting far from home.
Nothing out of the ordinary…but sure works well for us.
Just before this trip began, I ordered an Amazon Fire TV. After some minor challenges, we got it going and it has been a real pleasure. We’re now at Hilton Head Motorcoach Resort where the wifi is very strong and the FireTV works super well. But what I’ve been surprised about is the performance when wifi was weak. When my T-Mobile 4G time ran out, we found we could stream movies on a moderate 2G signal. The device has lots of features including the customizable radio apps like IHeartRadio and Pandora. I use the Amazon Prime film library, but Netflix is one of the many apps included if that’s you.
We watch alot of movies, so for us the Amazon Fire TV has been a nice addition to our evening programming.

If anyone looked at the recent auctions, Direct TV apparrently killed Dish in the new acquisitions category….by a huge margin. We have in-motion Direct TV with two receivers but do not travel as widely as most of you gentlemen do. We get our “local” stations even in Kerrville,Tx which is apprx. 250 miles from Houston. My issues are more personal… I do not support Dish because so much of their programing (i.e. Howard Stern and many others) is unacceptable from my view….. I have communicated with the CEO of Dish personally …we had Dish and after the communications transferred to Direct.
Our only issue is that often when the coach has been in the warehouse for several weeks, we need to call Direct for a new signal to be sent….works well. We also only use the modest basics and full sports programming they offer. We are not on the NFL programing. Our service is satisfactory and basically quick.

I am a huge Direct Tv fan after ditching Dish years ago… our service has always been great even the telephone tech support has been tops for us.
I tried to get the Distant Network Services (locals away from home) and can get them after signing all the papers but said the receivers could not be added to our existing account as they are now … saying that you MUST have a separate account for those services. In the end it’s easier just to use the external antenna for the locals and that works very well for us.
If we travelled more I would do it for sure but 95% of our travel is within our locals range… we can travel about 200 miles in any direction and keep our locals.
