  • Direct tv dish won’t go down

Posted by Chris on February 12, 2017 at 7:56 pm

Preparng to head out for the week in the morning. Doing my pre-check and put the direct tv dish up to make sure the receivers were activated. All went well. Shut down the dish and it went about halfway through the shut down process and quit. Message says elec motor failure. Unplugged the unit, no change. Got up and shared the unit etc and tried again, no luck. It is less than a year old and has worked fine previously. Jeff installed it and doesn’t have any additional ideas at present.

Anyone have any similar problems they were able to fix without a replacement? As of now I may stuck with the dish about half way down sticking up about 3 feet above the roof. Heading online to see if I can find anything out.

My wife says sell it that there’s always something to fix. I say that’s half the charm!

Kept searching online and found a post about this issue. This fixed it.

    1. Press

[POWER] and hold for 2 seconds to turn “ON” the TRAV’LER Interface Box. Wait until the

Interface Box finishes “connecting to antenna”.
    * The TRAV’LER may enter the “Search Routine” after 10 seconds this is normal (See NOTE Below).

    2. Press

[ENTER] and hold for 2 seconds or until the unit displays “Enter User Menu”. Press [SELECT]

to move the asterisk to “Yes”. Press

    [ENTER].

    3. Press

[SELECT] to move the asterisk to INSTALLATION.

    4. Press

[ENTER]. You will be asked to provide a code to enter the Installation Menu.

    5. Press

[ENTER] 4 times to enter code 0000.

    6. Press

[SELECT] to move “ * ” to “Calibrate EL”.

    7. Press

    [ENTER].

    8. Press

[SELECT] to move “ * ” to YES.

    9. Press

[ENTER] to start the elevation calibration procedure. The LCD should now display “

    Calibrate EL In Progress …”.

    10. After a few moments the IDU LCD will display “On EL Hard Stop?-Yes
    *No”. Visually examine

the antenna to verify that the antenna is against the Hard Stop. The antenna will be pointing as far up
as it can go, this is the Hard Stop.
    11. Press

[SELECT] once to move asterisk to “Yes” if antenna is on the Hard Stop.

    12. Press

[ENTER] and the LCD will display “Calibrate EL Success”.

    13. You may now stow the antenna.

Good going Chris…it’s about time you had some luck. I’m printing that and taping it to the closet door. Geo.

Marathon at Coberg had the same problem with a new antenna install on my bus. Wiring is set up for retract to …”rest” when the ign key is turned to engine start. In my case antenna install failed to retract with no movement right out of the box. Marathon did a rewire but were unable to make it work. Calling the factory was of no help, leave a message, we’ll call you back.

Going into parts room another new antenna was installed. That solved the problem. I have talked to other installers about this very popular antenna learning failure to retract is a common complaint.

I’ll will copy your reprogram post in case this failure happens to me…thanks.

Thanks George, I was happy to have a successful fix. Jeff, the trips are aalways good for me, the Mrs. just doesn’t get the fun of learning everytime we get into the coach. Thanks for taking my call last evening.

Winegard Trav’ler dish can be manually lowered. Instructions are in the owner’s manual.
