  • Direct TV customer service

Has anyone had success speaking with a “supervisor” at DTV? I need someone that I am able to follow up with and not have to call and explain the issue from the beginning every time. I get a different response and different result everytime I call. More and more seems the phone person is off shore with limited English and even less understanding.

I am just trying to get a correctly addressed shipping label for a return and they keep sending labels with MY address rather than DTV.

How Frigin hard can it be? It is like dealing with a bunch of baby ducks

If anyone is of the opinion we actually have the opportunity to speak to supervisors or even a service rep that actually knows what he is taling about, I believe that person also believe in Santa Claus or Tom owning his last bus.

Customer service is a crule joke and the worst players are the companies closely associated with the communications industry.

Our coach came with a Direct TV set-up and receivers (2). On the day of delivery we called DTV and I personally spoke with 9 different people to no avail.

Our tech got on the phone and became just as frustrated. We decided at that point not to have DTV and just use cable and/or the TV antenna. We have some very expensive equipement on the roof not being used because of DTV and their awful customer service.

    Personal opinion:

I have had Direct TV for 3 years. Customer Service has gotten worse since AT&T acquired the company. Much harder to reach a knowledgeable service rep.

It is interesting that there is a notice at the beginning of a phone call advising that the conversation is being recorded for quality assurance.

likewise it is interesting that to Order service is far easier than to cancel.

There are a few short cuts for reaching various people, but they are just as inept as the first contact people.

We have been with DTV since 1996. In the beginning it was good service. Of course until 2013 our service was at one location. Being on the road full time, we have experienced issues. I agree, it got much worse once AT&T took over. The experienced techs were too expensive to keep. The cross over from phone to satellite had a tremendous learning curve. Or so we were told.

What has ALWAYS helped us in our dealings with DTV is not to ask for a supervisor.

Ask for CUSTOMER RETENTION ! That’s not only good for solving problems but you can always get credits and discounts from them while you are at it.

Be sure you get a case number for reference too. That will save you from going over the same ground.

Rod, not sure if it was just luck or the suggested request for Customer Retention but I got right through to an English speaking person that claimed to understand the problem and is working to resolve.

I will know in a couple of days.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Mr. Mark, just a thought about your expensive rooftop equipment… when we brought our coach home last February, the previous owner had left the TVs and rooftop dish but took the receivers for himself. We contacted DirecTV and they sent out a couple of new receivers along with a technician to get it all set up. Well, he scratched his head and just didn’t know what to do about communicating with the rooftop dish so we sent him away. We called Winegard, the dish manufacturer, and they cheerfully and painstakingly walked us through the setup of the dish and receiver.

We still call DirecTV when there’s a reception problem, but that initial setup assistance came from Winegard. Just mentioning it in case it helps.

I guess we’ve been lucky every time we’ve dealt with DTV. We added the two new receivers on the bus to our home account. To their credit DTV insisted on sending a Tech to the bus at the storage facility. We backed it out of the garage and put up the dish. A couple of glitches and a phone call later the Tech had everthing up and running and on one account.

Refreshing a long idle receiver is a piece of cake at DTV’s website. No phone call needed.

But this AT&T thing is scary. We dropped them long ago. Hopeless service.
