  • Dim SMX light

Posted by Fred on February 22, 2012 at 9:45 pm

The light on the SMX display for my front Cruiseair has gone
dim, not completely black, the light is still on, but faint. I took the
faceplate off and looked at the back of the circuit board hoping that there would be something
easy to replace, like a light bulb or two, but no joy. The curiseair still works great, its just the light on the display.

Any ideas on how can I get the light back to full strength?

    Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the link Al!! I didn’t know about these guys. I just checked the Flight Systems website and they have replacments for the control panel, so that’s good to know! They suggest swapping out a good panel one for the “bad” one, I’ll try that tomorrw and see what happens. Looks like I may have to get a new one though because these circuit boards, evidently, can develope “spider” cracks and that can cause miss-fires, that may be what’s happening to mine.

I’ll keep you posted as to the out come.

    Thanks again for the help.!

I removed my cruise airs over two years ago so my memory is a little faded on this issue but we had this happen on one of our controls. We can not remember what we did to correct it but we did correct it. My wife seems to think we found out how to change the brightness in some of the paperwork and she is usually right.

The brightness of the display is adjustable by the correct sequence of buttons being pressed on the panel. I don’t have it committed to memory but the contol instructions will show it.

The brightness of the display is controlled by the set key. Once set point is displayed touching the button once will dim by 50% the second touch will dim by 90% touch again will return to full bright. You can lock the brightness by touching any other button, to change the brightness you have start at the beginning. I think that makes sense, if not manuals are available on line from Dometic.

Thanks to everyone…. the SMX light came back to life after hitting the set button three times. Dang it’s nice when fixes are simple!

Now on to the flood light!!
