  • Differential Lock Valve

Posted by Jerry on December 19, 2014 at 2:19 pm

I have a Valve leaking air out of the exhaust port that controls the Diff Locking rear end. I Called Prevost to order one, and they say they should be 24v. As you can see in the picture, mine is 12v. Prevost says Featherlite may have changed it? Does anyone have any info on this?

That looks like a Mac Valve,a pneumatic distributor can probabally help you find it.

So you reach in “somewhere”, pull the yellow knob and the differential locks up?

Yes mainly only the Vantere high out put detroit have them to keep you from doing burn outs , you have to be careful if it enables a wheel stand front air bags may be damaged Were is this valve located ? would be great in some less than great traction situations

Thanks Peter, let me know if you have it.

Dick, no, I have a factory mounted switch which matches all the others that says Diff Lock. It activates the Electric valve which in turn by air pressure, activates the Differential lock.

I was spraying the brass fittings on the valve last night, looking for air leaks, and I could feel air blowing on my hand, and it was leaking from the yellow tube, the exhaust port.

David, the valve is located on the wall behind the chassis batteries towards the transmission side of the compartement.

In all my years of trucks & bus’s I have never seen a differential lock, if it is it would be my first, I beleive if you could lock it it would break the rear end in a turn

All my Pete’s had them you can lock them in by pushing button on dash but it will kick out at about 40 miles a hour or so if you go to fast it does not like that , they also come with a Detriot locker witch will lock in at speed then unlock they are in alot of trucks no button to push then but makes some noise when turning
