  • Diesel Service Levels

    Guys,

We’ve owned our coach since 2015, but weren’t able to use it very much until last summer. This is our first coach of any type and I am a babe in the woods, but trying to learn. I do not have extensive expertise with any system in the coach, but would be considered ‘handy’ around the house and not afraid of getting my hands dirty. I posted a couple of questions before and probably didn’t give them enough thought before posting. Sorry.

We are in the process of paying for a good portion of Jeff’s planned future expansion, so I do have a relationship with him and his shop.

I told my wife this morning that I had a problem. I have gathered a lot of helpful information on PC, but reading the site leaves me with a lot of stress. We are full timers now and the potential for some major problem seems to be lurking continually. Don’t even get me started about delamination.

Anyway, I remember seeing a post that listed items included on the different levels of diesel service. I have searched many different combinations of “Level I, II, III Service, etc. to no avail. Can someone point me in the right direction?

    Jim,

While Prevost service is a great way to get started keep in mind your coach is more than a chassis. You will get to know your coach better and you will be more confident and comfortable with your coach if you take the time to set up a maintenance log system that encompasses the chassis, house, generator and various appliances.

Your paperwork should be where you not only list what has been done, but it should also be set up to list when something is due. Even the chassis has services that may never be aligned with other service because we have so many items with so many service intervals you need a means to record and schedule.

Start with the service intervals from Prevost, from the generator manufacturer, and for the appliances. get it all down on paper and decide if you want to be pro-active or reactive. For example, do you want to set an arbitrary interval for the replacement of batteries, or air bags or brake chambers, as examples or do you want to wait for imminent failure?

I tend to throw away perfectly good parts because I set replacement times and just replace aging components before they failed. I have had items fail while we were on the road and rather than put ourselves in the position of messing up a trip, I just replace them before they fail. I did not pull the intervlas out of thin air, I selected my own intervals based on anecdotal evidence and whether I am right or wrong, I am just happy knowing I am driving with good parts and systems.

Unless Prevost or someone else is willing to track your coach usage and alert you to needed service, they will go down their list and assume you are on top of things and you are wanting to retain control of your coach.

It may take a while to develop your maintenance program, but when it is done you will know you have a plan that tracks and services anything that has the potential to fail.

    Jim,

Do a search on this site for Prevost service levels.

Select Updated Engine Service Chart – Service Levels by TG Transport

Scroll down and you will find the service levels and what they include

    Jon,

Thanks for your advice. I understand about taking time to get to know the coach better and setting up a maintenance log system. I have a system in place for the whole coach, but it does seem that I am continually massaging the process and not satisfied with the product. Maybe that is normal due to the volume of information.

    Thanks again,

    Jim

    Doug,

I thought that I had already done that specific search. Must have gone all around it. Thanks, I believe that is exactly what I had previously seen.
