  • Diesel Leaking

Posted by Roy on January 29, 2018 at 7:51 pm

We have been setting in Casa Grande Arizona for a month now. Two days ago my wife noticed a spot under the coach. I checked it out. It is diesel fuel. We are slowly dripping diesel fuel. It is dripping below the generator compartment. I pulled the generator out and checked all the fuel connections. There was no fuel in the floor of the generator compartment and all the connections were good. No sight of diesel fuel. We are slightly off level with the front and pointing down, so it could be leaking further back and just showing up there. We filled up a month ago before parking. The gauge now shows 3/4 full. We first noticed it on a warm day. I put a paper plate under the big spot and after 30 hours or so I barely had 1 or 2 tablespoons full of fuel. I think it has slowed. 2005 Royale XL Series 60 14L DD.

Any ideas as to where it is coming from and why?

P.S. Please disregard my hillbilly rigged Co-ax Internet cable coming in thru the window.

Did you have a splash back while filling up ?

Was the incoming diesel extremely cool ?

Are both fuel fill caps tight ?

Is it possible you splashed over a pool of standing diesel fuel ?

Did you recently have service done…fuel filters changed ?

With 30 hours accumulating only 1-2 tablespoons I’am not too worried you have a big problem. Without leaking directly above from your generator probably traveling from another spot via frame rail.

Of course this is all a guess. Sources of leaks can be extremely frustrating.

    Al,

    No splash back when fueling.

We fueled near Demming NM so relatively warm weather.

I will check both fuel caps.

Do not recall driving thru a puddle of water or diesel.

    No recent service done.

When we first noticed it, it was dripping faster.

This appears to be away from everything except the gen….aqua hot on other side and back, fuel tank is aft…also this appears to be outboard on the coach….would run gen and then shut it down after a period of time…does gen fire right up or does it take multiple attempts…..fuel filters on gen, fuel pump…..fuel line..

Thanks Jeff. I am going to be away from the coach most of today. I will check generator late this afternoon.
