I took my cues from entertainer owners and drivers, the only bus people I knew before Prevost Community came along. They told me they let them idle if they are parked 2 hours or less. They were of the opinion that the worst thing you can do to your engine is start it, so let it run.

I am open to being educated better but I usually do not shut down when getting fuel or stopping for a quick bite.

Right there with you Davy, I always try to be open to learning better ways of doing things…

Once we crank in the morning, it’s very unusual for me to shut down until we get to our nightly destination…fuel stops, lunches, Lucky Dog walk stops, and usually a 10-15 min turbo cool down, all included. After the first approx. 2 min after start in the morning, I’m on fast idle whenever we idle though. One exception is a very, very early morning departure from a crowded campground where we have to hook up the Jeep. I’ll position the coach, shut down, hook up, then re-start & motor on out, taking it very gently until the temps come up to approaching normal ranges.
