DDEC….
The DDEC on my bus (99 chassis-H3-45) has decided to go nuts. Screen will freeze at random places…or may not work at all…then may pickup and operated fine for a while. Just totally crazy…although the screen is still alive.
Question: Can these things be re-programmed…rebooted or otherwise? Or am I looking at an even more exciting ($) resolution? As luck would have it, I’m at Prevost in Jacksonville for a minor fix on a oil-slinging hubcap…but before I asked them about this DDEC thing, I was hoping for some sound advice….the long suit of PC!!!

Are you sure the ECM is the problem, or is it related to the message center? If the engine is running fine the problem could be a failing message center, or something simple like a bad connection that just needs some TLC.

The bus is running fine…no noticeable anomolies of any kind. I’m not much of a technician, but am I to understand the DDEC system is literally controlling the engine? I just assumed it was more of a “readout” of what was going on, not necessarily controlling the whole doggone thing! At this point I would have no reason to think the basic system is not operating properly.
Based on what you’re saying, it may be the connections or the screen, etc. If that’s the case…I’m mighty thankful…but I still need to address this.
What’s your thoughts on letting Prevost take a look at it while I’m here?…or I could get it home and take a shot at it myself.

If you are already at Prevost that’s the perfect time to have them check it out. They will know more about it than anyone.

Are you refering to the DDEC Pro Driver that may be installed in the dash somewhere or are you referring to the digital display in the lower left bottom corner of the dash display?
