  • DDEC 2 DDEC 4

Posted by Art on August 3, 2021 at 1:11 pm

A guy I know has a 95 bus 96 conversion and is that a DDEC 2? Anyways he had some problems he was getting a 253 fauld code on a scan gauge so he took it to a shop and they said the DDEC was bad so they installed a new DDEC 4 in it, I thought if you replaced a DDEC 2 you had to get a used DDEC 2, Im I wrong??

Code 53 is the old EEPROM write error. Generally happens when the ECM tries to update statistics in non-volatile memory and the cell location has gone bad. Generally does not cause any other issues and the ECM does not need to be replaced.

According to him he said they cleared out everything and it would not except reprogramming

That is correct. Once you get the 53 write error, attempting to reprogram your ECM will most likely brick it as the programmer is attempting to use the bad cell.

But there is no need to reprogram it. Just live with the error. The only effect is that a statistic is not getting updated. The rest of the ECM only reads the memory which is not impacted.

You can replace the 3 with a 4. The 4 will give you more info than the 3
