Can anyone tell me what this temperature is being depicted? I can’t seem to find out what the icon stands for and is reading.

    This is in a 2014 H3

    Thank you!

Mark, this is a guess but to me it looks like it is reading transmission fluid temp. If you have an owner’s manual or access the one on line on the Prevost site that should provide a description of what the graphic shows.

That is for the trans oil temperature.

Thank you, the trans temp was what I was looking for!

99% of the time the transmission temp will track engine temp. But if the coach is retarder equipped and the driving is in mountainous terrain then the temp needs to be monitored because the use of the retarder drives up transmission fluid temps significantly.

    Jon,

The retarder in this coach was noticeably less aggressive than in my previous coach . I had an authorized Allison service center check it and it was set on low. They increased it to medium and I just wanted to be able to monitor it for the reasons you stated.

    Thanks again!

Good thinking Mark. You are way ahead of me.

FWIW the bus will protect itself by limiting the use of the retarder when temps hit 300 degrees. But as a driver you can keep temps down with the correct speeds and gears, but it is still an excellent idea to monitor the temps because heat is very damaging to the fluids.

At 300 deg you are melting seals.

Trans temp should run about 10 deg hotter than your water.

On my bus and I believe Marks for some reason 237 deg sticks in my mind as the derate number and 260 is shutdown time.

You want to stay under 220 as a general rule.
