  • Dakar Rally 2014

    Hi

I just thought I would share my trip too the Dakar Rally 2014, Argentina, Chile 9400 kms drive completed .

I should say that I am a self employed driver for Monster Energy Europe, in 2013 the company purchased a 1991 Prevost Liberty XL, after an extensive interior refit, the vehicle has been used throughout Europe on various events, Moto GP in Le Mans 2013 was the first event for the vehicle.

Later in the year the vehicle was on a wakeboard tour of Eastern Europe, on one of the stops I was having a discussion with Joe Parson, head of special events, for Monster Energy, we both agreed that it would be a awesome vehicle to send to the Dakar Rally.

So on the 31st December 2013, I flew from Frankfurt in Germany to Buenes Aires, and a short coach ride too the first Bivouac to collect my vehicle.

We drove to Rosario, then to Salta, then up over the Andes mountains into Chile, out towards the coast, and all the way down to Santiago, offering support & hospitality to the Mini XRAID team. It was a fantastic experience and we are flying out again this year to the 2015 Dakar Rally, this year the route takes us from Argentina into Chile, then Bolivia, back into Chile, then back too Argentina, look out for news details on Fox sport news around the 4th to 17th January

This was taken ontop of the Andes Mountains, on the salt flats, 05:00 in the morning, 4500 metres above sea level.

What a great picture. Sounds exciting what you are doing.

When I read the altitude my first thought was that 8V92 was probably gasping for air until the turbo got spooled up.

Stuart, thanks for sharing your experience and amazing experiences with a Prevost!

We have run part the Baja 1000 race in a baja challenge car back in 2004 (Encinitas to San Felipe and back) and am looking at hooking up with a support team to be a little more involved with the actual race, but don’t think we will be bringing the coach down with us for that adventure (Just dont want to do the border crossing in such a vehicle).

I was thinking of looking into Circuit of the America’s for next years MotoGP race as a way to get away from “yard work” and will definitely have the coach with us for that.

If Monster ever brings the Prevost to the US, let us know. Would love to see what Monster did with it. If it’s anything like what they do for their other hospitality efforts, I am sure it’s off the charts.

    Awesome stuff! Great picture!

Charles, I am going to try and make MotoGP this coming year in the bus, just dropped off an NC30 the other day to a guy from Austin who said it was a must I bring it down there for the race.

Would love to see the Monster Prevost!
