D60 burning Oil
Posted by atanas on January 13, 2019 at 7:45 ami have a X3 09 with D60, we have to keep putting about 2 gal of oil every week. No leaks anywhere coming from engine, Turbo etc. but we have to keep adding oil.
where can I start as far as inter leak, or even Pistons?
Keep in mind this is a Brand new motor with 10K on it

What do the folks say that rebuilt it?
If its not leaking any, the 3 places I can think of are: 1) turbo bearing oil seal, 2) valve guides/seals, 3) piston rings. If its piston rings you should be seeing a lot of crankcase gas/mist coming out the crankcase breather/slobber tube.

How many miles between adding? Could it be overfilled due to an improper dipstick?

Mikee … makes a good point.
Obtain the oil capacity of your engine from information provided with your bus. Not all S-60 are the same. This depends on oil pan installed from Detroit and dip stick installed or changed during its life time.
10 gallons should be the correct amount with filters.
If it calls for 10 gallons including filters then refill with that amount.
After start up and shut down check the level on your dipstick.
If you find full at different level on your dipstick….this shall be your new correct level. Use a small file to cut a line across dipstick so you can refer to full level.
Just one question…What color is the oil, when you find engine over full.

Warm up the engine, put it in high idle and remove the oil filler cap. If you see a lot of blow-by you may have a ring seal / glazed liner problem. How did the rebuilt engine get broken in? On a dyno or on the road?

Recent new (maybe rebuilt) 10k ago? Call the rebuilder and explain the issues. He should be very, very interested in the oil usage at this stage of the game. If he is indifferent or seems unconcerned about your predicament, please post his name here so the rest of us can avoid him.

How many miles driven in each week? How is fuel economy? Any issues with temperature or oil pressure?

have seen many over fill at service provider. Your engine will take 10 for 60 serries. fill line 3/4 inch below oil pan to block connection. wrong dipstick or service guy not watching automatic oil pump(putting to much in) Or maybe not everything rebuilt as reprensented on engine I know I pointed out many of the same things..Is there a mist on rear of bus?

I don’t think he is a coach owner, he does some work on coaches….

So this Apexmaster is a repair service learning how to do things here on PC?
If that’s the case it won’t continue.

If he contributes, I don’t see a problem. So far it’s only been questions AFAIK, with no follow up.
