This is not directly bus related but I have a feeling somebody here can handle it.

My trailer has a side ramp door with a man door built in. This side ramp door is latched and locked by two D Ring Locks.

When we stopped for the day yesterday I unlocked them and started to put the ramp down so I could put my daughters wheel chair in it. The D Ring portion on one of the locks came off in my hand.

Now that lock looks like this.

Whatever the D Ring screws into is gone. It may be wedged in the bottom of the door because I can not hear anything move when I open and close the door.

The back of the door is all diamond plate with about 100 screws.

I would like to know something about what to expect before I take the diamond plate off. Anybody had one of these apart? I have thought about cutting an access whole in the diamond plate as part of the repair or even for future access.

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

Try “Austin Hardware” ( google search)

They carry that kind of lock

Thanks. I took the diamond plate off the inside of the door this morning,

And this is what I found.

The self locking nut had fallen off and all of the pieces were right there in the little square opening. That is why I could not hear anything moving around when I opened and shut the doors.

Now, what to do with all the little pieces?

I found drawings online but nothing showing me all of this. I examined each piece and you could see imprints on top and bottom of some of them so I could figure out what was below and above some parts

I do not know what caused the nut to come lose after 17 years.. I will eventually make an access panel there so I do not have to remove 35 screws next time.

If it is associated with a bus, car, plane, boat, house, etc. it will break.
