Custom Cut Mattress
Looking for a replacement mattress for a Liberty. Needs to be a RV Queen short size, 60″x75″x10″ thick with 16″ radius corners cut on both sides of the foot end. I see a few companies online that will custom cut and deliver a foam mattress to these dimensions. Many mixed reviews. Don’t have a chance to try it… Anyone have good experience with ordering a good quality radius corner mattress?

We got a custom-shaped mattress, but not by ordering. We located a company that makes custom mattresses, cushions and berths for boats. Drove the bus to their location with the old mattress off the platform, the guy came out into the bus with a big piece of brown paper and he made a pattern, or template, for the shape of the mattress platform. We chose the foam density and thickness. When the mattress was done (about a week later), we drove there in the bus (could have had it delivered) and they brought in the mattress and placed it on the platform. If we didn’t live in an area with marinas, we would have traveled to a campground in the vicinity of such a business. Our personal preference is for a firm foam underneath a memory foam topper for both support and comfort. I just bought a normal queen-size topper and trimmed the corners myself to fit the shape of the mattress.

For a foam mattress, it’s no big deal to cut a regular queen to fit. I used an electric carving knife, and am very happy with the results.

We replaced ours with a Tempurpedic to match our house. There is one company authorized to modify their products and retain the original warranty. If you are interested I will dig out the information for you. They charge a fee for the modification, but the mattress was no more expensive than buying local. We had similar mods to your description and have been very satisfied with the work. It looks completely factory and was a short delivery time.

Dick, about $560 including Florida sales tax of 6%. It’s a foam mattress, but with a fabric covering, welted seams, etc. not just a piece of plain foam.

Thank you for all the leads & info. I did settle on a custom mattress company out of California called Tochta.com. What sold me on this company is they couldbuild all the custom dimensions & curves i needed but also provide a custom firmness for both sides of the mattress. Each side can be tailored to a firmness on a scale of 1-9. Further, it can be readjusted by the customer after it is in use. Important as i prefer very firm & Paula likes medium soft. It has a zippered quilted mattress cover just like a Tempur-pedic. It can be removed to adjust the foam layers or to wash the cover. There is a 100 day trial period with a satisfaction return guarantee. Delivered price was $1080. If you don’t care about side to side adjustability, the same custom cut mattress was $780 from Tochta.com.
The other company suggested, Artisanmattress.com out of Michigan builds custom a Tempur-pedic mattress. Great mattress. They start with any model Tempur-pedic and cut it to size. The custom upcharge was approx $750 bringing the delivered product close to $4,500 – $5,000.

Jimmy, it’s Zeno Mattress and Marine Bedding in Ft Lauderdale. Small place, we went by car initially to view products. When we took the bus there we had to go in parallel and on top of the sidewalk, praying no cars would be in the way. Not practical for you (we’re only 40 ft.) but I’m sure they would visit you for measurements and then deliver. After all, boats can’t go to the store.
