  • “Custom Coach” ??

Posted by Andre on April 20, 2015 at 7:57 pm

Tried doing a search, not much luck.

Noticed a few coaches for sale from “Custom Coach”. Anyone have first hand knowledge of these conversions? One I looked at kinda resembles the layout of a few Vantare’s I have looked at. Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I can provide some limited information. Custom Coach was one of the
first bus conversion companies started sometime in the early 60’s. They did
mostly MCI coaches. I actually visited their conversion facility
sometime in the early 90’s. The ones I’ve seen are good solid
conversions without any complicated systems. The company was sold a few
years ago but last I knew is still in business with records of all the
coaches they converted. While their conversions are probably not
considered as valuable as the same year Liberty or Marathon. For someone
like me who values simplicity I wouldn’t have any problem owning one.

    Ken,

Thanks for the info. I went and looked at one on Tuesday and you are right. They do seem to be a pretty simple coach. I like that. I had no idea they were still in business.

More than a few moons ago I was offered an opportunity to look at and even drive one of their conversions.

Custom Coach built (builds?) a robust product that is both simple and durable. My initial reaction is that their conversions looked institutional. The ones I have seen possess the styling somewhat similar to the average high school cafeteria. That is not to be treated as an insult, but a recognition that the coach lacks pizzazz, but offers serviceability not provided by any other coach. It will handle spilled food and drinks, dirty shoes, and greasy stains, yet it will clean up easily and handle those problems for years and years. It will hold up to the most abuse of almost any coach out there.
