How many of us who bought used coaches, bought them from a converter? And, if you did are you still happy with the deal and the way you were treated?

Obligatory content: I bought mine from a private party, “as is”; I couldn’t be happier! Buying from a converter or a dealer and paying the premium does offer it’s advantages in terms of repairs and support (often at little or no additional cost), but that time period definitely has an expiration. I’ve often wondered just how long this ‘goodwill’ lasts.

I bought mine three ways.
The first was a private sale less than 24 months old, but since I knew nothing I asked the late Don Hoffman to inspect it for me. He did as I tailed behind him, and by 10:00 that night he told me he could find nothing wrong.
As it turned out the coach was trouble free and we kept it 15 years. Great coach.
The second was sold by a dealer, Buddy Gregg. I did the inspection and what little bit I found got repaired. Jeff Rowe was the guy at the time who did the work. That was when I first met Jeff. I did all the zeroing out which took me about a year. It was a 97 that I bought in 04 so it wasn’t especially old, but I still did all the fluids and filters immediately myself, and then over about a year I also replaced all brake chambers, air bags, Norgrens, etc. myself.
That coach was also very reliable and we kept it 8 1/2 years. It was a little more work because when we bought it I had been doing my own work for years but I did not look upon the work as “work”. I assumed all the risk on that purchase as I did on the first coach.
The current coach is a 2006 bought 2 1/2 years ago from Liberty. The entire transaction was a no-brainer. We negotiated the deal and it took about a month for us to go to Stuart to pick it up. I spent 2 days at Liberty getting trained on the new systems I was not familiar with and inspecting it at the same time. I caught an AC unit that was working, but not as well as the other 3 and with no conversation or objection the coach was brought to service and a new AC was installed on the spot. With the exception of a hub seal which Liberty paid to repair the coach has also been trouble free and reliable. The purchase through Liberty may or may not have been more expensive but I got a coach in almost new condition with new tires, new batteries all service done and no risk. I would do it again that way in a heartbeat.

Same thing: broker = dealer: Florida Luxury Coach, The Motor Coach Store, The Motorhome Exchange, etc.
Converter: Millennium, Liberty, Marathon, etc.
There’s some fuzziness there; take your best guess… 🙂
