  • CruiseAirs question:

Posted by Tom on November 9, 2016 at 5:43 pm

    Question:

My experience is that when the temps are at 41, I’ve got heat…with the CruiseAirs. When it goes to 40, the CruiseAirs are done.

With the Webasto (referred to as 12Volt heat in my coach) how cold it gets doesn’t matter.

Is there a way to set the thermostats so that the CruiseAirs heat as long as they can, but the Webasto’s kick in if the CruiseAirs can’t maintain the desired temp?

    Thanks…TY

Cruise and bsmt ac are also heat pumps and will work down to the 35-40deg range. Most roofs use heat strips and work down to about the same range. Geo.

Assuming you have SMX controls, you can set them to run both kick heaters and the webasto, but the heat pumps will not work in conjunction with other settings. At least that’s the way my Marathon works. Double tapping the heat button will give you 12v webasto and kick heater providing the 110v heat button is also selected.

My heat pumps quit just under 40.

Are all Cruisairs heat pumps? I bought a 1984 Liberty Coach Le Mirage with OTR and three Cruisairs, but it also has some electric baseboard heaters. I’m not with the coach now, but am trying to figure out my heating and cooling strategy. The OTR is also currently not working, and I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth the hassle and expense on an older coach.

Not all Cruiseairs are heat pumps and my guess is that unless modified they were strictly AC units on an 84 vintage coach.

Keeping all systems working on a coach is dependent upon a lot of factors, including justifying the cost, personal tolerance for driving a coach in which stuff doesn’t work, where the coach is used, etc. I can say relying on Cruiseairs for cooling when driving down the highway in the summer is not a wise choice.

I would definitely fix the OTR air, nothing better to have IMO.
