I would be very surprised if you could not match your condenser motor with a new one from WW Grainger. Just make sure the problem is the motor and not a start or run capacitor if so equipped.

The system pressures are whatever the refrigeration charts spell out for R-22 and are based on temperatures. As a guide we have learned from others the best performance is usually when the temperature at the suction line is at its coldest. A good rule of thumb is if the sight glass is showing a liquid with ample bubbles it is just about right. All liquid or a visisble foam tend to be too much R-22 or too little. The units are very sensitive to the right charge.

Hi All!

Just a quick follow up post.

I need to replace the same motor; but I’d like to have it on hand before I remove the cruisair.

My hope is that I can have an HVAC technician there to empty and refill the unit.

The technician can check/top off the freon in the other 3 units while I swap the motor.

Would anyone happen to have the specs/Grainger part number for the motor that powers the squirrel cage?

Hi All, I just finished repairing 2 of my cruisair units.

The first required a new condenser fan motor. Called Grainger and tech matched it up. Grainger # 5WJC4.

The replacement was a double shaft motor. Just hacksaw off the extra shaft, noting correct rotation. Check twice, cut once. about $1600 Wired up, ran fine, topped off R22 charge. Achieved 10 degrees superheat, and about 9 degrees subcooling. Suction line at condenser unit was 40 degrees. Very pleased with efforts.

The other unit required a new compressor. Searched and found one from Controls Central. centralcontrols.com

unit number Tecumseh AKA5512EXA (AK111AT-004-J7) 120 volt R22 1 hp 12000btu. $3370, plus 32 shipping. It was an identical unit, and required minimal plumbing rerouting. The compressor had been replaced before, and I did not like the tubing routing, and made some changes. Also replaced the capacitors. Grainger 2MEC9 for the run capacitor, and 6FLUS for the start. Ordered a new filter drier, but did not receive a suitable replacement, so skipped it. Left the vacuum pump all night, to maximize moisture removal. Hope it doesn’t come back to haunt me.

I know that the Tecumseh AK111AT-004 will work as a compressor but it is only rated at 12,000 BTU where the origional cruise air compressor is rated at 15,000 BTU and it is #AK147AT-009.The cruise air condensing unit is rated at 14,000 BTU and I assume that the smaller compressor will work but I would assume that it would not cool as well as the correct one.I know that the cruise air compressor can only be sold by their distributors and is expensive(around $700) but if the smaller one works and cools well then it is a bargain.
