  • Cruisair Fan Speed

Posted by Archived on June 28, 2014 at 10:36 am

I have a cruisair that only has one fan speed, high. I’ve made all the adjustments with the SMX, but no joy. The SMX is OK, I swaped out one of the others and the same problem. Even in manual fan speed mode, I only get one speed, no up or down, it shows medium speed on the little green lights.

The problem is when it gets to temp, the little green fan speed indicator shows the fan on low and the compressor still running, there is no air moving, but the compressor is still cooling. I have it set on intermittent, so the compressor and fan should just shut off when reaching temp.

    Any thoughts?

On mine I can set the minimum and maximum fan speeds. The green lights are only relative, not absolute fan speeds.

Is it possible that the unit you are trying to adjust is in the bedroom? The bedroom is often limited to a lower speed to minimize noise.

Do you have the manual for Cruisair?

If the SMS is programmed correctly and you have no control of fan speed then it is in the control board….

That’s pretty much what I’m thinking to Jeff, thanks.

Chuck – I know how to adjust the fan speeds, differential and all that stuff, my problem is one single speed.

If you only get full blower speed, it could be that the TRIAC or its control logic on the power board is shorted out. If the compressor does not turn off at target temp it is more likely the control board.

After talking to Donnie at AAP, he told me how to restore to factory default setting and it worked.

    1. Push off, then set

    2. Push off, set, fan simultaneously (some numbers will flash)

    3. Push set

    4. Push off

All good now and working thanks to Donnie.. This information is not in the manual unless I missed it.

For those that don’t have the SMX II manual, it would be helpful to have on board. There are a lot of programming options, like the memory reset procedure on page 11 that Tom described. You should also have the coach addendum as there are some unique programming options for specifically for coaches. Both can be found here:

I submitted 2 files to the article section of the site that may help with SMX control questions.

I put them on-line so if anyone wants to read or reference them they are now available. Thanks.

tom, I had the same problem and mine was only running on highspeed. I went to the bus barn this morning and fallowed your steps that you posted and it’s working great again. My control was in in the bedroom on the drivers side. No problem with any of the others. Thanks for your help.
