Crossing into Canada from Port Huron to Buffaloe
Are there any Campgrounds along this way My trip will be 585miles would like to make a two day trip with stop over in Canada, 300 mile days are better than 600 Gary

I crossed at Pt Huron last year heading to Buffalo with no problems, even declaring a shotgun. The KOA at Pt Huron has some super size sites that worked well. Short trip across, so don’t have any campground suggestions in Canada. The custom folks at Lewiston on the US side were assholes. Canadian customs couldn’t have been nicer.

Too bad I’m up to my ears in bus upgrades, I was suppose to be there for the 4th and we could have had a cold one. We have friends with a lake house just north of Pt Huron.

Well I pulled into Port Huron KOA about 4:00 PM My, deluxe site was ok very tight had to unhook the super sites are great but its the 4th of July and this place is packed lucky to get what I got We have talked to a friend that says go 401 to 403 to the QEW to Fort Erie this way I only pay one bridge toll will report back Gary

Tom I was way back in the campground you had a super site looks like. I got the only one left is why I was so farback #32 I saw the site you were in it was great. Trip thru Canada went like this, crossing into Canada they ask if i owned any hand guns I said yes, wantedto know if I was crrying any I said no, Ask me where were the hand guns were, told him V.A. He ask where in V.A. I said at home He ask where in the home I said in the safe, weird questions he let us in. Coming back in the USA at Ft Erie the guy was a complete asshole, made me turn the coach off and give him the keys, all the while telling me how dumb I was because I pulled up when the other coach in front of me left. wanted me to back up told him I could not, that when he got mad as hell when I got out to unhook told me he would tell me when I could get out of the coach and thats when he took the keys. The worst thing about all this I am paying that assholes salary! Gary

Anyone remember the good old days?
We lived in western NY and traveled to Canada frequently for both business and pleasure. For personal travel we most frequently crossed back and forth at the Peace Bridge, and when flying on business I used various points of entry, usually Buffalo Airport, but also Niagara Falls, Rochester, or Erie Airports.
The crossing at one time was no more inconvenient than going from NY to PA via the New York State Thruway with a stop at the toll booth.
But with all the BS I feel safer. Don’t you?

It is the same with the U.S. Coast Guard these days (Uncle Sam’s Confused Group). Since they rolled them into our wonderful Dept. of Homeland Security they think they are Rambo’s. They now run around with fatigues and guns mounted on the boats and carry pistols too. It seems they can’t be bothered with doing the job they were intended to do, they just want to harass everyone and act tough.
I was leaving the marina a couple of years ago with our boat heading out to Lake Superior and was stopped by a couple of bozos because they wanted to know if I had been inspected yet. I told them I had. Then the idiot said in a really smart assed way, “then where is your inspection sticker?” I told him on the window, port side where it is suppsed to be. He finally looked and turned a bit red and said we could go. The sticker that year was bright orange and you could see it a mile away. Best part is that they pulled up from the port side. Idiots!
I have friends in the commercial shipping industry and they are even more upset with them. They (USCG) don’t know or understand the regulations and think they can impose whatever they want on industry just becasue they say so.
With all the bs these days, I am really glad we sold the boat.

We lived in Jamestown NY, not far from Lake Erie. When I flew back and forth to Canada, almost exclusively for business because we bought our steel from the Canadian mills thanks to the exchange rate, I had to file a flight plan in advice to advise customs on each end. I carried the forms listing passengers, their birth dates, country of origin etc.
Dealing with customs was a non event since I either waited in the plane, or came into the office depending on the practices at that particular customs office. It took me about 5 minutes on the ground and I was off again. No hassle, just the inconvenience of having to make a stop at a port of entry airport.
We had friends however who had power and sail boats on Lake Erie. It was common for them to leave their marina stateside and go to a marina in Canada for lunch or an overnight stay and never clear customs or have to file any paperwork. Ditto in the opposite direction.
The last time I went to Canada in our coach to do a seminar for a company in Ottowa we were searched and treated like criminals by the Canadian customs inspectors at the Thousand Islands port of entry. I cancelled all steel orders and never went back to Canada. Life is too short to be abused as we were. And just to be clear, this preceded all the current Homeland Security BS by 15 years or so, proving people can be jerks without having an excuse.

Yep, nothing has changed at US Customs Gary… They made me shut down
also, hotter than hell and got all pissed because I said it will take a
minute because I have to shut down the compressor before I turn off the
engine and then I told him it won’t be pretty if it won’t start… It
was the attitude that was worse, cocky, arragent and obviously hated his
shitty job on the hot summer border. -
Well I was planning a trip across Canada on the trans Canadian Hwy, I am now rethinking that idea, We have all had a bad day but then we were over it these guysmust wake up on the wrong side of the bed every day, just do not like being treated by our own customs officers like I am some sort of terrorist! I understand it is thee job but they could be a little nicer to American Citizens! Gary

We are getting ready to go from New Hampshire to Montreal and return to Wi through Canada. I guess we’ll just take our chances with our own A-holes.
