  • Creston Wireless Ipad Interference

Posted by Charles on August 4, 2013 at 2:45 pm

After having a number of failures with our Creston Ipad connecting to the bus, finally got into Marathon Dallas and had Kevin take most of the day sorting the problems out. I’ve had other people try and figure this out and the lack of knowledge is astonishing. This is really a speciality area. I’m in Scottsdale and can’t find anybody that can work on this stuff.

Anyway: Apparently the power strip that connected the wireless router had been improperly secured. It fell and disconnected the router. I had also recently added an ATT wireless hot spot in the bus so my kids could survive riding with me and still having access to the internet. The Creston ap on the Ipad was connecting to the ATT wireless hot spot since that was the only thing on the bus running a network connection.

So: first place I’ll look is to make sure that the IPad is connecting to the right network before any other steps. This one was a real headscratcher for all involved. Take a look at what network your system is connected to and write it down somewhere.

I would have thought that you would have had an indication that it was no longer talking to the Pro2 or 3 depending on vintage of your coach. I know that wifi ones will tell you if you lose the connection to the processor. Since it needs to do that to work, I would think there must be a way to verify if it is connected….?

I am thinking of getting that setup in my coach this year. Either that or another wifi remote. But since we already have iPads and iPhones, that may be the better route to go..

    Charlie,

When you get a chance, do a signature in “Profile” and it will help folks with undertstanding what Conversion you have.

You would think it would be pretty apparent when it doesn’t connect. That’s the issue. I did connect, just to my hotspot instead of the bus router. Since the network names are just a series of numbers and letters, I didn’t make the mental connection. Humm, it’s connected. Just to the wrong network.

I recently read an article about the Savant system that’s designed towards Apple. That might be the ticket.

Also, trying to figure out how to replace an audio/video switch that is not longer available. They rebuild them believe it or not. For now, DSS1 is the front TV and DSS2 is the bedroom TV. No flipping back and forth.

I’ve added signiture line to the profile. If it works, then there will be two signiture lines!

I think that you need to get in touch with a real Crestron programmer and have him go through the system with you to see what you want to fix / change. I did that and made several changes that have really worked well. The only thing you need is the original program files, and any Crestron programmer can work from those.

I have everything backed up on a USB stick, so I can have anyone work on it if I have an issue on the road etc.

The Crestron stuff is pretty bulletproof, but can be frustrating if it won’t do what you want it to do.
