I love doing overnights at Cracker Barrel for 2 reasons. Usually decent parking but most importantly, I like their breakfast…3 eggs scrambled soft, country ham or crispy bacon, fried apples and 1 pancake with 2 syrups. No need for lunch that day.

That said, I tend not to park in their RV spots. One, they’re not long enough with my toad, plus often there are cars parked in the RV area. Usually, there are long wide open spots in the back or the side of the car lot where I can pull right in and even put the slide out if desired.

However, this last trip, there were employee cars parked sporadically along the outer edges which spoiled my perfect parking spot mentioned above. And I didn’t feel like waiting until maybe 10:30pm when the employees went home and those spots would be wide open.

So I pulled in right against the rear of the the Cracker Barrel building. I went in and talked to the manager who said it was fine. I told him I wouldn’t block any doors but there was one 3′ x 3′ door about waist high that I was blocking. He said that’s where they put the conveyor for groceries but they only use that on Fridays. All was good.

I like Cracker Barrels too – for pretty much the same reasons you do – and they are very quite at night to boot!

I rather just find a campground and not worry that somebody backs into you or worst knocks at your door looking for a handout

I recently did my first overnight at Cabela’s and give it a thumbs up.

I have found that many of these store do not own the parking lots and have no control over them. The manager may say its ok but the lot security folks think differently. You have to side the place up. Like is their a lot of RV’s or not. Walmart and cracker barrel here in the west have stores in big malls and it’s a no no.

We do a fair amount of cross country runs and there are real nice Walmart’s, Cracker Barrel’s with big spots, and even 5 star Rest stops (Pecos Rest on I10 in West Texas) And there are nice Flying J’s where you can park up front and have dozens of spaces to yourself. And at the same time there and some nasty Walmart’s, Crackers, and J’s that you can’t park at (or don’t even have RV spots) Some places are so gross you don’t even want to drive through the lot!

And we’ve been to real nice campgrounds and campgrounds that suck. Plugged up sewer connections and septic trucks pumping all night long, people with bright street lights on the side of their 5’ers they burn all night long while rocking out to music.

You can kinda tell what’s going to be nice and what’s not by looking online and with the sat view on the phone (well… not Jon’s phone)

And, if the place stinks, I open up a Cheerios cup and keep moving… Have to do that once in a while!

Look on the PC Map for those places visited by your fellow members knowing the stop will be good.

Tom makes a good point. If you stop at a good place that isn’t on the map, put it on the map. If you stop at a bad place or one that makes it difficult for us to get in and/or out of, put that on the map too!

We overnighted at the Columbus Ohio Cabelas a week ago and couldn’t have asked for a better location! 1650 Gemini Pl, Columbus, OH 43240. Had 2 seated coaches, 2 entertainers, and a 5er in the lot besides us. Seemed very safe, clean and quiet.
