Country Coach water heater
1 water heater is not heating. There are 2 square heaters, 10 gallon, units, 1 above the other. Anyone know make model and if it could just need a heating element?

Bill, I have the same setup as you. it could be the element, it also could be the 2 snap switches. All 3 on both heaters were bad on mine when i bought it.

They are Atwood EHM11-SM. 10.5 gallon. I dug into both and found a burnt (to a crisp!) on the dead on and a disconnected wire on the one that was only heating the water a little.
2 new connectors and a piece of wire and everything is good again. It appears the Atwood is no longer available but a couple of other units the same size and same connection layouts are available for Marine use. This one is labeled Marine Only as well.

Cool, You would only need to replace them if they leak. Mine are 32 years old and still don’t leak. I also replaced the pressure relief valve on both of mine. There are drop in replacements out there.

Raritan makes a great Marine Water heater all sizes, Install a few in my past RV repair days, Cases are all this durable plastic no rust and on tom a large bolt hole for support, A bit pricey but a good product.

I found a water leak that looked like it was coming from under the bottom unit. Looked like a bit** to get it out so I just bypassed that one. Leak still there so took out all the decorative panels and still couldn’t find the leak. Finally chased it to a loose elbow fitting on the back side of the water filter that was near the heaters. Slowly dripped down the back side of the exit pipe and down to the floor where it leaked back under the lower heater. Difficult to fix but I finally did get to it to fix that issue. While doing so I found evidence of loose wires and galvanic damage in and around these old water heaters. Likely time to replace both units if/when I can get up the gumption to do so. Not likely any time soon as the one still working provides plenty of hot water for the two of us. New elements are cheap and readily available if you find one burned out.

One thing we should do every once in a while is suck out all the calcium and white crud build up in the water heater. I pulled the heating element out and put a shop vac in the hole. must have take out about a pound of silt.
