  • Country Coach Etched Glass Replacement

Posted by Bill on September 18, 2018 at 9:44 am

What fun service day can be. Long story short, Stewart / Stevenson put a rookie on our coach and while he was using the remote floor lifts to raise the coach, only one side went up and the coach tilted over. The lift hit the window behind the drivers seat and shattered the glass. The tech. didn’t tell anyone and it was not until I was in the drivers seat that I had to bring it to there attention. They are taking responsibility but I don’t know if the older light brown tinted window with the CC logo and lines etched could be found or manufactured. If not I am going to want 6 new windows so they all look the same.

Anyone have any idea if this might still be able to had through Country Coach or another source?

Winnebago still supports Country Coach parts. That does not mean they will have what you need but in the past they have shared their supplier’s name for parts the no longer stock.

They may be your best chance short of a RV salvage yard.

It’s a basic prevost window shape, correct? Could get a prevost window, have a glass etching company custom etch it to match and get a tint company to apply tint to match what was there.

I would suggest calling Greg Bootes at the service center at Country Coach / Winnebago in Oregon. If a replacement can be found, made or etched he would be the one to know.

Thanks for the info. We are full timers so getting this done quickly is going to be important. If we can find the right tint for the glass and they agree to pay the etching bill I am sure I can get that done at some location in the future.

S and S contacted CC and they just said it was a Prevost window and offered no further help to S and S. I am meeting with S and S today to see what they are going to do.

I hope Mike and Harvey at S&S will do the right thing. If not I’ll be disappointed and perhaps search out another venue for service work. Would you like me to just show up unannounced for morale support. . It’s only twelve miles

What happened to the rookie? Asking for a friend.

What happened to the rookie? Nothing. That was the proper action. Whoever let him do it should be under the gun, however!

Prevost claims they have the glass and it is being shipped in from the Dallas shop. I called Dallas and could not get anyone in parts to respond to my request to go to the part and tell me if it was the right color (DCL Dusklite Tint) so I am just hopeful that they know what they are talking about and it matches the other windows. It will then be up to me to find someone to etch the glass and SS says they will pay. I will get that part in writing!

We hope to have the glass by Monday/Tuesday and we will see where it goes from there.

Well, Prevost shipped 2 replacement window to Stewart / Stevenson and both arrived broken due to terrible packaging (bubble wrap in a standard cardboard box).

Now they can’t get a 3rd window before we leave town so we need to find someone willing to order the correct window and install it. We will be in Albuquerque for the Balloon Fiesta and may be headed for AZ after that. Steward/Stevenson would like to pay to have Prevost install it but the Center of the Country is a Prevost Service desert! Can anyone point me in the direction of someone in the S. Central US (other than TX where the glass is currently located) of someone you think would be able to handle a Prevost level window installation? Is it worth calling the PASS folks and talking to them about having the work done or do they just point you to the nearest “service” location?

So, after spending a week at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta (AWESOME!) we are heading to Dallas to get a new window. What a pain but at least I know we will get it done right and S&S will pay the bill. Anyone have any idea how to find an artisan who could duplicate the CC etching on the glass and do the sand blast treatment without removing the newly installed glass?

Prevost got us in and out here in Dallas with new glass that “almost” matches the tint of our other windows. It’s clearly as good as it’s going to get. Now, trying to find an artisan interested in copying the CC etching design and doing the sand blast on the glass, on the coach, that’s going to be a challenge.
