  • COOLANT TEMP

Posted by Joe on April 11, 2016 at 6:50 pm

Last fall, driving with toad,my check engine light came on,then the

pro driver I think read coolant over temp, and I also think the temp gauge

was falling back to 195 f were it normally runs. this all happened in the matter

of 10 seconds, then all was fine. No check engine lamp. So I retreived codes

ddec iii system code 25 for shutdown and code 44 on memory code. So looking

at schematics for the coolant temp sensor,it seems to only sense for the gauge,

I do not see a coolant sensor in the schematics [ other than coolant level] that ddec III

monitors. Unless its called something else or just dont see it. Were going to Bella Tarra

for a overnight on the 22 on are way to Fort Walton and wondering if I could be pro active

on this matter, Or cross my fingers. Ive driven about three hundred miles since the concern

with no problems. thanks for any input

Your coolant sensor is on the rear of the engine, driver’s side. Before considering a replacement however it would be worthwhile checking all connections and grounds associated with the sensor.

I carry a spare just in case. I also carry an oil pressure sensor and an oil temperature sensor .

Hi Jon,thanks for that, looking at Prevost electrical schematics that coolant sensor, is

for the gauge only. Wich begs the question where did ddec III pick up the problem?

Hey Joe, I too was having those same symptoms. Temp gauge read fine but had over 250 over Temps on DDEC, long story short it was a sensor (item – 1111/DDE23515251). I have a 11/1995 built chassis with DD60. So like Jon stated I’d start with the sensor. My diagnosis cost $1200, only $58 for the sensor. Also Joe there have been cases where the pins associated with the temperature sensor have been corroded or loose.
