Convoy Vancouver to Mexico
Posted by Tom on March 17, 2023 at 6:07 pmHi all, brand new to the community.
My wife and I, with our 2 year old King Charles Cavalier, would like to see if anyone is planning to drive South on the West coast some time in the not to distance future.
We would like to convoy with two or more other rigs Prevost or otherwise.

Cheers.

I don’t think I would go to Mexico right now, The Prevost is a big Target, A lot of people are disappearing and Dying, It’s sad! My family spent a lot of time in Mexico in the late 70’s early 80’s it was a great place to camp, We has boats and dune buggies an old Gold Coast camper and tents, We camped right on the beach it was a blast. Mom and dad as we got older and moved out they still went. They had a 1948 Silver Sides they took down, when they bought their 1st Prevost 1980 Liberty in 1984 they stopped going down their, Dad said it was too Flashy. It’s said that Mexico got like that.

Cool pics Art. What does the caption on the Liberty front cap say?

It say’s Big Bertha, My parents owned it before us, A boat is bad luck to change name,Even know it’s not a boat we left it alone. Our boat did not match but what the heck, It did not have a name on it.

mmmm, that is disappointing to hear. We know that in certain areas there is crime as in all North American cities but we also believe there are enclaves of Canadians/Americans that are in gated areas.
I hope others with recent travel experience that could share their opinions.

There are many busses that travel in and out of Mexico with no problems. Every year after Quartzsite a bunch of Wanderlodge guys travel down, been doing this for many years. Enjoy yourself.

Well, thank you for that bit of encouragement. I am looking forward to touching bases with anyone who knows of a future excursion to Mexico, cheers.

I cannot help with your excursion but we live in Mexico 6months of the year. We have traveled extensively: Wrest Coast, Guad, Oaxaca , Chiapis sand more. We have been in a truck camper, Clark Cortez, 78 Vogue and our Bluebird FC,However we have not been beyond our home in Kino Bay for a number of years. We even bought an 88 PT38 Bird hoping to continue with our travels. It is getting worse. There are just too many places with violence. Tur, Cartels try not to bother tourists but you could be an innocent bystander and get shot. I will not get into politics but with the USA pushing Mexico to stop the Fentanyl the Cartels will be displeased. I have never heard of an RV being taken but if you are towing a fancy Jeep bad things could happen. The people from Quartzsite usually do not go deep into Mexico. They go to Penasco ( Rocky Point). That is a safe place and close to the border. A fun spot. I can try to answer any questions you may have.

Thank you for that, I will research that location.
My wife is a retired teacher and did volunteer work with children a couple of decades ago.
She has her eye on an area called Bucerias about 7nm North of Puerto Vallarta to work with some children there.
My concerns are two-fold, safety and Prevost low ride height regarding roads, I don’t want to go very far on any washboard roads.
If anyone is involved in this type of humanitarian work we would love to know about it.
Cheers, Tom

Bucerias is an interesting spot. Safe. But the journey from the USA is questionable. You would likely cross at Nogales. As far as Guaymas there are no problems and it is a 4 lane toll road. Some of it is new concrete. But from there on there is a lot of cartel activity. especially in Sinaloa. Unless there is construction your Prevost would do just fine, Mexican buses use that route all the time. These are not chicken busses. Some new Volvo. many other European fancy units. Culiacan to Mazatlan is a decent road. Again lots of cartels in these areas. I have not been much past that area for a few years. Lots of new roads. Hope this helps.
