Our Coach being older than 2004, must endure annual diesel soot test for license renewal
After sustaining $4000.00 damage during testing in 2016, we’ve found a great place albeit “spendy”,
A shout out to Transwest RV, Brighton Colorado. This facility’s personnel were great. Informative tour a day prior to our test with a personal visual inspection of their equipment was extremely informative.
Colorado Health Dept allows heavy duty testing facilities to charge up to one hour labor for the test. Two years ago we went bargain hunting since testing centers don’t have to charge the “max” hourly rate
The shop who did the exhaust/muffler/radiator fan damage and sent us down the road without telling us about the damage had a bargain price of $95/E test
Last years test was at Stewart Stevenson. This year their system was unavailable
One of my biggest concerns was testing places need to dump the tag, then run bus at high speed with drive tires tucked up into wheel well. We were wondering why our upper inner rubber fender liners were showing wear.
Transwest dyno rollers are set up so drive tire rollers have belt drive to tag rollers and all rear tires roll smoothly. Test, after set up was a minute or so. S&S last year ran the bus for four or five minutes several times while on dyno. I didn’t understand.
Great place to go for E test. Very clean shop as well. Thought I was driv8ng into a Mercedes dealership. Will go there next year

Hey Jim, What in the world did they do to cost $4000? Did they pay for it or was it on you? I guess we don’t think about where we go for help to hurt. BTW, thanks for the help the other day…

Hey Harry on our 2 stroke jobbers, they would just park it in the corner, red tag it, and call a wrecker to haul it to scrappers. Another reason not to live in Beautiful Colorado,, Behind California.

Yes, some states just seem to want to suck the joy out of things. Do you know there are some states that require a drivers license! Outrageous!
We do have inspection here in NC but it’s for lights and tires.

I gripe about Oregon all the time but when I hear about emission dyno testing of old RV buses in CO I shake my head. Come to Oregon, no bus license, no testing, no sales tax, no use tax. Just stay away from Portland area and you’ll be fine.

Harry. Two years ago we had a mess. Sept 16th went to a budget emissions shop, Jim Egli trucking and repair Sprinter service. Unbeknownst to us, he had a surface dyno they would back vehicles up on
Anyhow, they crushed our muffler, torn it from its attachments and moving it fore and aft which then the exhaust pipe got whacked by the exhaust pipe creating melted dog ears on all 7 blades. And…..sent us on our way clueless. Two days later, cavalierly looked under Coach to find huge dent and tear in the muffler. Looking in engine compartment by light I saw the fan. Calling JE repair, they wanted to see the bus. Upon inspection, they said we ran over something and didn’t know proper operation of a Prevost
Colorado Health dept who oversees heavy duty testing, said unfortunately it’s a he said they said. Submit it to our insurance.
But course this year Nationwide canceled us for that claim and they saw we had hail roof damage claims last year on our house, Office, and 51 rental units and canceled us upon renewal last month. I’ll send you photos by phone

Sounds like a first class nightmare Jim, I’m sorry it happened, it always seems to happen to the good guys!
