COLD START’S
I’m in the habit of Either plugging in the block heater or running the engine preheat on the Aqua Hot before I start up. Block heater for 3 to 4 hours on my scan gauge engine starts at 100 degrees same with Aqua Hot preheat, All you with Webasto’s it does the same thing. My buddy about 4 years ago always preached to me about that, said cold starts are hard on diesel engines, not just in snow but anytime. So when we are camping or on the road I do this. Warming up the engine this way I find it comes up to temp really quick.

You say you plug in the engine heater? Mine (and my ’88) had a push button in the coach for engine block heater. If it’s that’s cold and I am running my Webasto the engine is already warm if I need to start. I still like to turn on the engine block heater for 30-60 minutes but have never found a need for more (and we just spent 6 weeks in ND!).

Yes the webasto or Aqua Hot heats it up also, But my point was even if it is 60 out the engine is under 100 degrees, Gary always said 100 degrees it is better for the engine When it Starts,I never did that until he recommended

Never heard about the 100 degree suggestion and never found it necessary. You would think if Prevost/Detroit wanted the engine to be 100 degrees before starting there would be some kind of a start/don’t start warning light.

This comes from a guy that has been in the paving business for his hole life and has a lot of trucks and a 2017 H3 Millennium, He said that is what he has done in his Personal buses. He just said that a cold tight engine ,cold oil would perform better a little warmer, Warm oil and motor would wear less. That was his opinion and I thought it made sense. So when I can I will turn on Aqua Hot or run Webasto warm things up, I will, It’s not a big deal. But to each their own.

I typically would preheat if OAT is under say 20 to 30 degrees. Especially zero or below. The batteries have to work hard enough at low temps, don’t make it harder.
I’ve preheated the airplane engine when really cold (have you ever seen pre-synthetic air cooled airplane engine oil pour when its cold? There is a reason old airplane hangers and FBO’s had radiators for heat.) and we always preheated even the synthetic oil in the race cars.
