  • Coach Shopping Continues…

Posted by Archived on July 22, 2017 at 12:03 pm

We traveled to Dallas, TX. early this
week to look at some for-sale coaches and continue our coach buying
    education.

We first went to the Prevost Service
Center for a discussion with their service manager and a tour. I now
know what a “DMI” is and what it means to us in the coach buying
process. We then went to the Marathon Coach location in Dallas for a
    tour.

Over a the next few days we went to a
couple coach dealers that had coaches in our price range. Every body
    was very helpful.

We learned a few thing in the process.

-Do not under estimate the effect of the
Texas summer heat and humidity on my old body.

    -The Prevost Service Center potentially
can really help a first time buyer to achieve some level of
confidence in the mechanical condition of a coach.

-With some advance notice, the dealers
were pretty much willing to help us in any way that was reasonable.

-Coach shopping is a daunting task.
Because we were initially trying to just become more knowledgeable
about the Prevost conversions, it is very possible that we may
not yet be able to tell the difference between a good coach for us
and a not so good coach yet.

I have read most of the articles
concerning coach buying and condition but may not have absorbed it
all. I really can’t tell if we are just being cautious and
methodical in our coach search or if we have “paralysis by analysis”.

    The education continues…

Well done Tim, a lot of research in a short amount of time for sure. I did most of my research on plastic coaches visiting Newmar and dealers to test drive, ask questions etc. Then I saw the error of my ways and had nothing but Prevost’s in my eyes.

I don’t have any advice to give because I don’t know anything. But I can say what you already know… You open and close the bay doors, Open and shut the main door and sneak a peak into the engine compartment and you know nothing else comes to that standard!

Then if you get behind the wheel and drive it, It’s all over but then shouting. When I drove my bus in terrible rain and wind and nighttime conditions I knew there could be no better choice!

    Good hunting Tim,

    Harry

    Tim,

One of the things that were very important to us was the proximity to service centers. We live in San Antonio, so having both Prevost and Marathon close by, and close to each other was a big part of our decision once we settled on a Prevost. Can’t tell you how many times we’ve shuttled the coach from Prevost in Ft Worth to Marathon in Grand Prairie (3 miles away) and vice versa until we had the coach zeroed out. We also plain liked Marathon best out of the coaches we considered.

    Have fun finding your Prevost!

Not sure what prie range you are looking. You might be looking for new. Would like to compare notes on what you have seen in TX. I am in NC. Maybe you are looking for the same thing I am. Click on my name in the top right hand of this post and you can contact me through email. I tried clicking your name but you must not have included your email.

    Thanks

    Ron

    Hi All,

Does anyone know the 1998 XL being offered by Panterra Coach?

    Thank you,
