Clock ticking under bus?????
Posted by Jacky on August 5, 2015 at 5:25 pmWith members input I have addressed some air leaks on the aux side with new fittings and tubing. Now I hear something that sounds like a CLOCK ticking under the bus around the front axle area. I have no idea what it might be. Any ideas?

JD, could it be a relay of some sort clicking? Maybe a pump or motor trying to activate. Best is to try to isolate the area it’s coming from, that might help with suggestions. Is it coming from the steering bay, under the front bumper, etc.

Yes it does appear to be from that area. I can’t hear it as loudly when I have my head in the drivers bay but it is more clear when I put my ear next to the wheel well. It sounds centrally located along the front axle. Will have to get back to the warehouse and do some more investigation.

Protection valve on the accessory tank?
Is it related to air pressure?
FWIW a $5 stethoscope from Sears is great at pinpointing the location of noises. Under a coach sounds bounce off of a lot of different surfaces making the origination point difficult to locate using your ears only.

When i asked Troy about the issue on my coach, he confirmed and said this is normal…… Not sure if this is “year” specific but it will stop for several trips, then hear it again from time to time. With all the other coach issues to worry about, just forgot about this one..

I believe you are hearing noise from the second check valve in the Marathon AUX system. The reason it’s making noise is down the line a leak calling for air.
As you can see the size of this valve is much larger then the AUX compressor check valve. Thus under the right circumstances it makes noise.
