Chrysler is not issuing a mandatory recall, but rather a voluntary one. They still don’t agree with the government findings. As I understand it the voluntary recall does not include all model years identified by the government. The fix, if it really is one, will be to install a trailer hitch. So, you can at least get a free hitch.
It’s a shame Chrysler is making such crap. I had a 2011 Grand Cherokee for just over a year. In that time 3 software updates were done, none that fixed the under load miss of the V-8 equipped car. The first software fix did fix a miss that was so bad you’d swear you were running on less than 8 cyclinders. I really liked the looks and ride of the care, but couldn’t drive an unsupported product. The regional service manager agreed, after a ride, that something was wrong. Of course he changed his tune when they couldn’t fix it saying at that point it was normal. I traded it in for a new Ford Explorer and besides the rear window that doesn’t open independent of the liftgate this has proven to be a great car and with far better mileage.
