  • Check Engine Light

    Jon,

Today while driving for about 230 miles, a “Check Engine” light illuminated on my dash. The Message Center Display had a message that said, “Check engine at next stop”. I stopped and the light went out and MCD returned to normal displays. About an hour of so later the check engine light came again. This time I noticed that my turbo boost gauge was indicating “0”. Pressing the accelerator pedal failed to get any turbo boost. I slowed a bit and after a few minutes the check engine light went out and the turbo boost returned. A bit later I was climbing a hill and didn’t have the usual power. The check engine light was on and the turbo boost was 0. The outside temp was in the mid to high 80s. Each time that the turbo boost was at zero, I looked in my rear view mirror for smoke and saw none.

I checked the engine oil: it was in the normal range (lower half on the dip stick between L and F). All of my dash gauges were normal (consistant with the past). I checked the engine compartment for leaks, belt problems and hose problems and didn’t see anything out of the normal. Didn’t find anything on the toad that my have come from the engine area.

    I have a 2000 XLII chassis with a Detroit Series 60.

Do you have any idea what’s going on?

    Mike
