  • Chassis Heat Issue

Posted by al on January 21, 2020 at 10:38 am

Good morning , On a recent trip I was unable to provide coach heat to the cabin . I had dash heat , however I did not have heat throughout the cabin . I did have heat on a previous trip one month ago but not this trip . Any thought on where to start looking ? Thank you in advance .

Al, Just to clarify, are you saying you are getting heat at the dash, but with the OTR turned on you are not getting heat in the rest of the coach?

I have the same issue in my 1984. It has been suggested that I rebuild the main water valve by the heater core, but I haven’t gotten around to that yet. They can apparently get gummed up and stop opening when it calls for heat.

Well after our trip to Prevost in Jacksonville all is well . Turned out there is a 12v wire running from the alternator that was burned . The wire runs to the relay in the front which controls the OTR heat . It did take 2 hrs due to the fact the wire was burned on the back side .

I had no issue with it taking that long because the repair also fixed another issue we had with a battery dash light . It seems we originally thought we had a imbalance issue , however after replacing the Vantare installed voltage balance we still had a issue with voltage readings . Well Paul our Prevost technician said this will take care of you dash light also . So all is well and our experience could not have been better . Thank you to all that offered help .

Any insight into why the wire burned?

It was not protected and was sitting on the alternator . So after the splice he covered it with wire loom .
