The bus should have the equvalent of four group 31 batteries. Every coach since my 87 has had that size and number of batteries.

Appears 650cca would do the job ? Don’t understand the added expense for something that won’t be used. Loads will only draw the necessary current needed.

I believe group 31 is a size and comes in different cca ratings. I’m thinking Prevost sized 650cca for a reason . Just my thoughts.

In May 2009 I put four of these in for about a thousand bucks. Based on the evidence today, they will last a few more years. Consider the cost / expected life balance to determine value. If batteries are changed at 5 years, then the cheapest battery that will last 5 years will do.

I suspect that Prevost and Detroit Diesel determined that 650 CCAs was sufficient. Batteries are really close to the starter and alternator, I don’t know if that impacts the CCAs needed to get the job done.

Awesome Dan. Followed the link and it looks like 1100cca. Still wondering why some are installing these high cca batteries when they will never be loaded beyond @ 650cca and probably only when started during extreme cold temps ?

Not unusual to see various CCA rating for the same battery, group 31 and priced accordingly. Sometimes the higher CCA is available at the same price as the lower CCA and that’s a no brainer. As long as it meets or exceeds the spec CCA, you’re good to go.

NAPA had the group 31 950 cca on sale 2 weeks ago for 79.95 each.

I would always get the 950 or higher rated one. You never know when you might need extra capacity. I had a fuel issue with the last bus and had to spin it over many, many times while we were trouble shooting the problem. Lesser batteries would not have lasted as long.

Also, if you live where it gets cold, that extra cca capability comes in handy too.

Purchased 4 of them and had in bus @ 3 weeks. We’ll see how long they last.
