  • Changing Collant

Posted by Craig on August 3, 2017 at 4:08 pm

Since bringing the coach home that we purchased in May.It has not left the place . It seems I would rather tinker with it than use it. Any way not having much history on the coach. I am going to replace the collant the best I can tell it does not have the extended life coolant. Going by the collant filter it is a NAPA 4071 with 4 units of DCA. I know it is going to be a tedious process. Should I go with extended life or just stay with heavy duty collant.

    Thanks

    Craig

    Craig,

You alone have the answers to questions that I think would steer you in deciding if you should remain with a 2 year coolant or a six year.

Here are the ways I made my decision.

Did I intend to keep the coach long enough to justify the possible higher initial cost as well as the extra effort required to purge the 2 year coolant that is incompatible with the OAT (6 year) technology? I did a lot of flushing and draining before I determined the system was free of the conventional coolant.

Are my hoses and radiator in such good shape they will not require service or replacement for at least 6 years? The engine related hoses are of very good quality, but the hoses associated with the balance of my cooling system such as those installed by the converter will not have such a long life and there are a lot of them through the coach.

Do I control my coach to the extent that I assume all responsibility for maintenance, and can protect the coach against a technician doing maintenance from adding conventional coolant converting it back to a 2 year coolant? Adding SCAs or conventional coolant wipes out the 6 year life so I have to be able to insure NOBODY will have an opportunity to add coolant or SCA coolant filters.
