CC OTR
Posted by Archived on June 8, 2017 at 7:53 amThis year my CC keeps blowing the compressor fuse in the ECC. Being an older CC, it of course has a minor refrigerant leak, I just keep a bottle of 134a along and top it off periodically.
I’ve unhooked the compressor from both the low and high pressure switches along with the wire to the compressor clutch. Plugged them back in, checking the fuse after each wire, first the high pressure switch, then the low, and lastly the clutch. Fuse was good after reconnecting each wire, clutch clicked as it should, after a few seconds the fuse in the ECC popped. All this was done with ignition on, engine off, and the OTR on. My condensor fans and the fans inside the bus all continue to run after the fuse blows.
Somewhere I’m getting a heavy load to blow the 10amp fuse in the ECC, for giggles I tried a 15 popped it also. Would one of the pressure switches cause the overload?

If the condenser fans and evaporator fans in the coach continue to run after the fuse blows it sounds like it might be the clutch and the circuits associated with the compressor clutch.

Narrowed it down to the compressor clutch, now just have to find a replacement.

I’m having some difficulty locating a puller for my compressor clutch. The compressor is a Diesel Kiki, as you can see in the photo the threaded portion for attaching a puller is 1″5 diameter. I’m not having any luck finding anything that large. I do have a Carrier Refrigeration in Omaha that I haven’t yet talked to, any other recommendations?

Hi Dan and Judy, about 2 years ago I had the clutch go out as well and instead of going to Prevost the guys at Marathon in Grand Prairie said they could take care of it. They obviously did not have the correct puller and someone hammered on the pulley to get it off and bent it beyond use and said that it came in that way. After a new pulley/clutch assembly it was making cold air again. Dan you may be able to get the redhead to make you one in her metal shop. Hope you guys are doing well.

Hey Mark, actually thought about building a puller in the Redhead’s shop……problem is finding a replacement clutch, they are made out of unobtainium. Just got off the phone with CC, they replace the compressor with an updated version. Since we are going by Junction City after the Driggs gathering, I’m going to have them update the whole shebang.
Tell Gail, hiyal (sorry, that’s my best Texas drawl)

Dan is this the clutch on your bus air or on the drivers air for up front. I had to replace my clutch on my big bus air compressor and got it from Prevost Fort Worth. Hope this helps, and I think Gail will appreciate the attempt at her Texas draw. If you guys ever get down Fort Worth way get in touch.

CC did a different take on OTR than your Prevost bus air. I have a dash air, galley and bedroom that I can individually run. Your setup is something like 100k btu, mine about 40k, your compressor is waaay larger and common. Mine, not so much…..

Dan,
They are talking about the CC OTR (small compressor stacked above the alternator) and not the big one with Prevost OTR. I think…..
Seems there’s always confusion when talking OTR and CC.
CC – Little Compressor
Prevost – Big compressor, dedicated Evaporator Bay and Condensor Bay.

Correct Tom, and on my 94 the Deisel Kiki compressor and clutch are obsolete. I talked to CC, even though they haven’t done a conversion for years they still have alot of knowledge and familiarity of older conversions they did.
I talked to Greg, gave him my coach #, he was able to look up the specs. Basically at this point I’m sol trying to replace the clutch on this unit, so we’re going to swing by CC when we’re out there and update. ‘Till then we’ll just run the gen and the roof airs when needed…..no biggie!
-
Dan not knowing anything about your CC, is your compressor over by the gearbox for the fan to cool the engine. On my friend’s 03 Marathon he doesn’t have OTR but roof A/C’s like you have, he does have a driver’s a/c that runs off a small compressor over by his gearbox, it might be worth talking to Marathon and see how that setup compares to yours. Just a thought.

Nope, mine sits above the 24v alternator, passenger side. Marathon in Coburg is only 20 minutes from CC in Junction City, since we’re already going to be in Oregon I’m making an appointment with CC. Other than having to order a new compressor they have everything else on hand.

Older Marathon Coaches and 90’s Parliament Coaches also used the “aux” system with 2 evaporators and a TM-31 compressor that is separate of the Prevost Dash a/c. It is NOT nor has it ever been a Prevost part. The system kinda is a mini version of what Prevost OTR A/C does though, but space-saving and less weight, which is why older Marathons, CC’s and Parliament’s used that system from SCS-Fridgette. The original company who sold the system is long gone now, but the TM-31 compressor is still a part in circulation for various vehicles. Just an historical note…

I have the same set up.
The TM 31 has been a good compressor for me.
I bought two in Fort Worth just down the street from Prevost.
I think around $700 bucks each if I remember.
CC or maybe any one else will tell you it is around $1,2000 or so.
The first one I bought didn’t know better and CC had one and thats what they wanted.
Most of the converters will probably charge a premium.
