  • CB radio location

Posted by Gary on May 24, 2017 at 11:18 am

Looking at swiching out the CB for a cellular booster. Can use the same coax, just need to change out the antenna. However, the mic on my 05 comes out of the cabinet next to the drivers seat but the unit itself is no wherer to be found. Without tearing into everything anybody know where the CB itself is located so i can get the antenna feed?

    thanks

The mic is the cb. That’s why it won’t talk 2 blocks, it is a piece of shit. It’s called a Cobra all in one.

Take your dash screws out on that side and look in there. You’ll see the clip it’s plugged into and the ground and hot wire.

    bernie,

In my XL it is in the small floor cabinet to the right of the drivers seat, that is why I was wondering if its likely in the side panel or front panel, and the wire disappears into the cabinet and is not visible in the cabinet behind the seat when I pull the cover and drawer.

I’m with Bernie, if it’s the all in one, place in garbage.

Are you ditching the CB? It’s actually a lot of fun having it. Especially in traffic.

I got a Galaxy 959. I’m just trying to figure out how to get a quarter wave whip up there on the roof. The 2 foot astatic up there isn’t much. And to boot – I don’t know if it came from Marathon like this – but the ground plane radials were installed wrong and were connected to the whip…. not the ground. I can’t get the swr below 2!

There needs to be a “like” button on some of these comments regarding the all-in-one POS.

Had the P’sOS in my 1 ton welding trucks so we all to talk to each other on locations we were on. Seemed to work okay in short areas. Heck they would work going down the road also. The antenna is the key. Got a old cobra dash mount in the bus.

On your welding trucks you had a better steel ground plane than a Prevost can ever dream of. I don’t know who your converter is but on a Marathon they run a battery cable for the ground from the roof plate to the frame. That’s as good as it get’s for a bus.

In any kind of traffic area the POS will get walked over due to low output wattage. If you hook up say a Cobra 29 to a Marathon existing antenna with the short steel whip you can get your SWR under 1.5 and talk for a few miles.

    Walt,

We have been running CB’s for over 40 years and I don’t know what in the hell your talking about. Are you running a no ground plane antenna?

On an edit I had to look that up Walt, sorry truckers don’t talk like that. If you want to know if Marathon installed yours you’ll have a ground cable in your front run box attached to the frame with a CB label on it.

Hey Walt, that’s mild compared to what he tells me.:)

    Sorry guys,

I really didn’t care about the POS CB I wanted to take it out and just use the coax that should already be run from the antenna to the CB, although its all in one, not sure where the coax is inside the coach since I can’t chase the cord from the mic.

Where the end of the CB wire plugged in the clip is right there, it shouldn’t be more than a couple inches in.

At some point our coach had a CB radio next the drivers seat. But is was removed before we bought it. During the removal, the wires were CUT.

What in the world does that have to do with this Dick?

You ever see a clip that an all in one CB plugs into?

Gary, this is what you are looking for, the mic connects to the coax and the antenna connects to the front of the box. It has to be behind the wall.

“If you want to know if Marathon installed yours you’ll have a ground cable in your front run box attached to the frame with a CB label on it.”

Yes – that’s what I want to know. When I got the bus, it had some ground plane radials like this:

But – when I took it apart, I could see that the radials were connected to the Positve – NOT the ground as they should be. I haven’t taken it ALL THE WAY apart yet to see the coax coming out of the roof… cuz you know, that’s a pain…. and of course… it goes out the roof back far enough that you can’t see it from the TV openeing. You know – it’s lower on the list. The new top-o-list is all the accent lights that are burning out!

The best antenna I ever had was one were I just made it – with super long ground plane radials. I want to do one for the bus with some good radials…. but done right.

Gary, as for the cell boster… If you end up taking it all apart on the roof to get to the coax…. take some pics of how it went together for me will ya?? We have almost the same setup…. XLii and a Jeep! And is your bus Blue too??
