Catfish Deweys in Fort Lauderdale, FL
I have added this restaurant to the maps already. We arrived at Aztec RV Resort in Margate (Fort Lauderdale) late afternoon and were looking for a place to eat. We like to use the “AroundMe” iPhone/iPad app because it shows you what is near to your location.
The description for Catfish Deweys and their online menu looked great so we decided to give them a try. I do believe this is a local “insider” place because if you were driving around in that neighboorhood after dark, you would go right past it. It does not look like much at all.
Inside the decor is “rustique”.
Amongst many other, single dish dishes, they offer “all you can eat” menu selections every day. On Tuesday, it was shrimp and or catfish. We ordered the peel and eat shrimp with a couple of pieces of catfish.
The shrimp were big! The catfish was good, too, but we had a 2nd helping of shrimp. For $20 per person, you cannot go wrong.
They do also offer all you can eat baby back square ribs! I think that is on Friday. We may well go back.
This is a laid back place, nothing fancy whatsoever. But who cares when the food is so good and cheap.
They do have a full bar, too.
So when in Fort Lauderdale or in the area, try this place. Highly recommended.Cheers,

Have you received the cold Quebec shoulder yet at Aztec? I have no experience at Aztec, but have heard lots of stories, true or false unknown.

a place where French Canadiens prevail. There are lots and lots of Porsche with Canadian license plates for sure. Add to that a mix of Rolls Royce and Bentley and you know that you are in a special place. But, aside from that, this resort is not really close to anything special.

Tom, to get back to your question, this park is probably 80% or more French Canadians. I have seen 1 Ontario plate and a few from other states. The far majority is from Quebec. There must be a lot of money in Quebec because 1 Porsche does not quite do it here. I have seen sites with 2. Hi-end Audis coupes are well represented and like a said, Rolls and Bentley, too.
Being able to speak French is a definite plus at this resort. We learned that this used to be a trailer park which got destroyed during a hurricane. A guy from Quebec bought it, put $40m into it and rebuilt it to what it is today.
Aztec is a nice place and has very interesting architecture. The lots are relatively generous and the paver pads are probably 30-35 feet by 75-90 feet.I am not sure about having gotten a cold shoulder but noted that almost all of them do not talk to you, unless, you initiate a conversation.

Interesting. We are going to be there in a couple weeks. Not sure why I picked it now, but thought it interesting when the invoice came in French.
I am not sure how much time will be spent in the park. I hope to go to the Miami boat show for a couple days.

Catfish Dewey’s has been around for many years and has been a staple with the locals. Agreed they have excellent fried shrimp and catfish.

we were just there last week and the first place on the right after the gate – that guy has half a million bucks in autos siting outside in that awful Florida weather beside his bus. I commented to my wife that I would preferred to have that stuff in a garage if it were me. He does have his large Budda in the shade.
I had one guy chase me down because of the Tennesse Tag – wondering what a FC wanted with me – but he was from N.E Ohio wanting to visit with a Southener who spoke English- Lol

Tonight, Friday, was all you can eat fried sea scallops. I went for seconds and got an equally large portion! And all that for $240 … !

I am a newbie to this forum, but I have stayed in Aztec and several parks in Miami/Lauderdale area. If your goal is the Miami Boat Show, look up Miami Everglades on south side of Miami. Absolutely no comparision to the lots at Aztec, but English is primary language spoken and MUCH closer to Boat Show venues. Larry and Penny Thompson is a county park I think, and in same area, but it is HARD to get a reservation at this one. Nice place though.
If goal is some time in Lauderdale, closer to Las Olas, consider Yacht Haven Marina and RV, if you can get in. Again, no comparison to lots at Aztec. Older “trailer park” and 45’s have limited choices on sites. But location, location, location. Totally lacking when we were there in place to store stacker trailer, so ask about that. Enjoy the boat show.
