  • Canceling Petoskey Rally

Posted by Archived on March 5, 2019 at 9:45 am

Unless something changes for the better very soon, we will be canceling the Petoskey Rally. The local Manager, Debbie, at Petoskey RV Resort is impossible to communicate with and will not respond to numerous e-mails, texts and phone messages on the office and her cell phone.

I have been complaining and trying to get assistance from the Sun RV Resorts main office and that has not helped either. Trying to talk to someone in reservations or customer service is rewarded with long hold times and/or leave a message that doesn’t get returned.

My last conversation until yesterday from Debbie was on January 29th, at which time I informed her she needed to amend the contract so members can make reservations direct, same as she did last year.

I finally got an e-mail yesterday informing me if we want to make reservations direct like last year, the rate would go to 85.00 per night instead of 55.00 like last year, a big increase just for them to answer the phone.

What we can expect going forward unless something changes from Sun Resorts is excessive phone hold times, answering machines, clueless reservationists that can’t find our Rally, confusion and the siphoning of your wallet for 85.00 per night.

We’ve only had 5 signup and I will be refunding those PayPal payments in the near future.

Sorry folks, I’ve done my best to pull this off.

That’s surprising to hear Tom, with the investment in the expanded facility. Like us, maybe others were going to sign up later in the spring.

Good for you Tom, communication is the least someone should expect. Telling them to let the door hit them in the hindquarters is exactly right! People who don’t know how to run a business shouldn’t be in business. Just my 2 cents worth!

    Well done Tom,

We’re with you Tom. We’ve had our run-ins with Sun and they can be “difficult” at best to work with. I, for one, avoid Sun Resorts and have good reasons to do so.

They are difficult to deal with even when they are open for the season…I can only imagine now when they are “closed”.

Too bad the Hearthside folks have not been supportive of PC and made some concession on age for rally attendees. They are missing the boat as far as I am concerned. Most Prevost coaches look better at 20 years old than plastic coaches that are new. Hearthside also has people who answer the phone all year long and are helpful.

We need to stop trying to fix stupid. RV parks that have age restrictions or who make it difficult to make reservations get erased immediately from my list of places I will visit. Life is too short to deal with either.

Here Here Jon, why the heck waste time and money on places who don’t want you or respond to you in a timely manner.

Exactly, Harry. As somewhat related we put seminars on a thumb drive for attendees. Tom tried his best to order some with the PC logo, but sent to my house because I load the seminar on the thumb drives.

They made it very difficult because their policy is to only ship to the address of the credit card, which was a PC credit card but with Tom’s address. My policy is to not order from them so Tom and I agreed to get them elsewhere. The alternative was to use my personal credit card. Nope.

Anytime a company makes it hard for customers they lose.

Thanks for the frustrating work Tom. We don’t blame you and fully agree with the cancellation. Impossible to deal with these people! It took forever to get a reservation through Sun Resorts, who took our deposit, and it will now take the parks’s action to issue a $162 refund minus a $20 fee. Sun took the deposit but won’t issue a refund. Interesting. Oh well.

Just sayin’ that Hearthside, with a coach photo, is most accommodating and a superb park.

Well, put us in the disappointed category but fully understand.

We also go in that group that was waiting to sign-up with PC to get our Resort reservations. Having gone thru this drill last year we were waiting until they open in May to even try.

I just got 2 weeks of vacation back. Now where am I going to go??????

Come to TN. Two Rivers Landing RV Park and Anchors Down RV park are both nice places and close to all the activities and goings on in the Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg TN area.

For those planning vacations around the Rally, I would suggest you go to Petoskey anyway since it’s a great place in the summer. Hopefully you can make a reservation, but it won’t be fun.

I believe there are other folks who may go as well.

Ok, thinking out loud, how about getting with Fred and doing Hot Springs. Let’s say the week after Labor Day.

    Jon,

we have stayed at both two rivers and anchor down. Nice places and we were considering heading back up that way.

If Fred put together a hot springs deal we will consider it. In fact we’re thinking about pushing any trip back into Sept. to avoid the heat.

we will miss seeing everyone in Orange Beach. When the dates shifted that last time it conflicted with an existing Disney reservation so we will miss it.

Anyone know the dates on next years Prevost Expo? We have been talking about that for next year also.
