Campground suggestions in North Georgia?
Posted by Jerry on July 21, 2013 at 5:41 pmCan anyone suggest a nice campground to spend the weekend in Georgia, somewhere north of Atlanta?
Also, has anyone tried the campground inside Stone Mountain Park?
thanks

Jerry,
Stone Mountain is very nice, you can’t go wrong. If you want to be north, my exit off I-75 is 306, Adairsville and Harvest Moon is at that exit. Plenty of room to get around without worrying about tree’s. http://www.harvestmoonrvpark.com/. Roger has stayed there before, nothing fancy, but OK for a few nights. I live 19 miles east of that exit and if I wasn’t traveling, you would be welcome at our place.

Tom,
I tried to make reservations for Stone Mountain online, and they are booked. We are just looking for a short trip, just to run the bus. Thanks for the offer, I didn’t realize you are in Ga too. I am off exit #149, I-75.
I had thought about Allatoona Landing until I read some bad reviews.
Have a good trip. Thanks

Another spot just above the GA/NC line, not far from Cherokee, NC is a place called The Great Outdoors RV Resort in Franklin, NC (gorvresort.com). Many of the sites are 45′ friendly, great access (4 lanes) from Atlanta and close to all the activities of the park. And,
if you are intreested in a permate site with fantastic views of the Smokey’s, we just purchased two lots next to the campground at a separate coach resort.

Stopped at Harvest Moon this past weekend. It is a well kept, nice CG, people are very nice. Easy to get in and out of, plenty of room.
The only negative I can think of, is the gravel, no pavement, other than entrance. However, it is wel kept as well. Just have to drive sloooow, to keep the dust down.
But, the free fresh delicious 2 bags of popcorn at check-in,………………….. just about out weighed the gravel!

You missed it Jerry…. I always buy dinner for folks that stop there, then wash the bus for them in case it got dusty!:)
With OTR, you sure have to plan ahead when there is a dust problem, I learned that the hard way. Same with the gen, better shut it down or you’re in for a mess.

Dang Tom, wish I had known that. Yea, I had my OTR off, it wasn’t real bad, just went slooooow.
