Caging the Spring or Parking Brakes???
We’ve all probably heard of “caging the brakes” if there is a catastrofic air system failure, RIGHT? Until now I would have been at the mercy of a wreaker driver to know whats what. Not no mores When you change out your brake chambers for new, you learn real quick.
On the left is our new 1624 piggyback brake chamber, on the right is our new drive axle 3036 piggyback chamber. New out of the box they come “caged”. That’s what the big bolt/nut looking thing sticking out of the top is. Notice it isn’t a bolt w/a hex head. It has 2 prongs instead. In the pic I have my old caging setup(bolts) lying just below the hole in the can where they are stored.
