CAC Hose Info
I was reading through past posts today and came across o lot of posts re the colour of CAC Hoses, can someone please clarify if the requirement for Red hoses on the Hot side of the system is required on all model of Series 60 units or only the later EGR equiped engines ?

Based on the total lack of reported CAC hose failures relating to non-EGR coaches I suspect if a coach has red hoses on the “hot” side, which is from the turbo to the CAC, and blue hoses on the “cold” side which is from the CAC to the intake manifold the coach will not have a premature hose failure.
What brought this topic up was part numbers might have gotten transposed and as a result on EGR equipped coaches blue hoses were used on the hot side. On an EGR coach turbo boost when the EGR is calling for more boost the boost pressure can reach 50PSI, and turbo discharge temps are 500 degrees or slightly above. Blue hoses typically have a 350 degree rating. Red hoses are rated for 500 degrees. The result of the mix up in numbers was blue hoses used on the hot side were failing.
It is my understanding Prevost now uses a blue hose rated for 500 degrees (with a short term duty at that temp) for the entire CAC system, hot to cold.
I don’t think a non EGR coach has such high system pressures or temperatures.

Jon, Thank you for the info, my coach has very recent Blue hoses on both sides of the CAC, CAC replaced just prior to my purchase, i will at the next opportunity replace the Hot side with Red hoses, inspected them yesterday and at present they are all good but to prevent a future issue will change them out.

I’m not sure you have to change them out because your coach will not generate the heat or pressures seen on an EGR coach.
You don’t give any specs on the hoses you have, but if they are the recent ones from Prevost it is likely they are made for up to 500 degrees. I know your boost pressures are not going to be anywhere near those of an EGR coach.

I think the red and blue hoses in the engine compartment would be cool looking.

Starting a 1000 mile trip this week and was thinking about the CAC hoses, so decided to purchase a spare, pleasantly surprised went to a local heavy duty truck supply store and bought 2 Hot side hoses (Red) and two clamps for less than $100 Canadian, hose details,
FlexFab 4 ply silicone coated hose,with 3 stainless pressure retention rings,and good to 500F, and 50 PSI, so at least i have spares if the worst should happen.
Good for my Non EGR Series 60

Great idea. I had a hose fail last fall and there were none available in my location.
