Bus dead, won’t start at all any suggestions?

Went out to the bus today to take it for a short venture and it was totally dead! Bus was hooked up to 50A service with the battery chargers on and showed very little draw on the ammeters. When I turned on the “battery kill switch” on the drivers dash no light was indicated and absolutely nothing turning on ignition. Additionally, I had a battery start paack hooked up to the back to see if the batteries were dead but still nothing – totally dead. The house batteries appear fine and the generator started right up. None of the cruise air airconditioners will come on however. Sat with the generator on for half and hour but nothing came up -= bus was still dead. Can the kill switch have died on me? Everything was normal when I put it up 2 weeks ago! Is there another switch I have missed somewhere or a breaker? I checked all the breakers underneath and found nothing…
I did not check the breakers inside the door at the drivers exterior side however – is there something in there that could be tripped?

Same thing happed to me yesterday. I pulled all the start batteries (4, six volt) and load tested them one by one. The last one (of course) indicated ~6 volts on the meter but as soon as I hit the load tester it died. I replaced all four – good as new. You can get an inexpenive load tester at just about any auto parts store. I keep one on the bus.

I agree with Dan. I would start by checking voltage at the Chassis batteries.
But by your description of other things wrong such as the Cruise Airs won’t come on there is something else going on but it might just be coincidence. Start with the basics.

Had the same thing happen last week on my 1991 8V92TA after leaving power switches on for about a month and a half. Went to start nothing. My old coach will not charge engine batteries though gen set and had to pull a couple cables and put charges on 12 volt batteries to charge. Took all day and started. First time I forgot and left switches on and the draw will kill them slowly. First thing I would do is check batteries with meter.

Yep! 4 year old chassis batteries…
All new batteries = no worries on start

If you have not purchased them yet…keep in mind using NAPA card will save about $50 per battery.

Dan,
Al is the man who really did the heavy lifting when it comes to our NAPA fleet card. He continues to help us at every turn and while people view the card as a benefit of PC, they need to understand it was through Al that we were able to participate in the program.
